Walter Cronkite Dead: Legendary Newsman Dies At 92

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
The greatest broadcast journalist in the history of the trade. I remember someone saying that listening to Walter broadcast the news was like listening to your grandfather tell you what was happening. As YMI pointed out, he once was chosen as the most trusted man in America. A monumental icon of American broadcast journalism, beyond David Brinkley, Lowell Thomas or even the legendary Edward R. Murrow. A giant among men.....rest in absolute peace, Walter. Your soothing and reassuring style certainly brought peace to many Americans of my generation who so vividly recall your magnificent descriptions of so many critical events in the tumultuous saga of American history in the 20th century.

We won't see the likes of him again so treasure the legacy, my fellow Americans.

"And that's the way it is" tonight as the immortal Walter Cronkite has passed away. I am very sad to lose him.

R.I.P. Walter :hatsoff:

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
As much as I watched him as a kid, I honestly, honestly thought that Walter had been dead for years. I had no idea. :(

R.I.P.

He was a master in his time, and of all-time. He has been missed as a deliverer of the news for years. Now he will be missed as a trusted voice of reason.

The one and only.
My father will always remember hearing the news of Kennedy's death from Cronkite. He was a constant presence during that time of mourning for our country. Truly an iconic figure, America has lost one of the greatest broadcast journalists of all-time. May he rest in peace.

R.I.P. the great Walter Cronkite.

Came from the greatest news organization of its time "CBS news" and was one of "Murrows boys".Back when there was just the 3 networks which I grew up with it was no contest who was best, for news especially it was Cronkite and CBS.

I just want to add that I think it is a sad thing that his death and his life will probably get nowhere near the attention that Michale Jackson's did.Nothing against Jackson (not his fault) but Cronkite ,the events he covered and his life are much more important IMO.:dunno:

A true staple in American journalism and across the world.
Straight forward and no Bullshit.

RIP Mr. Cronkite

When he called the Vietnam War "unwinnable" he sent shock waves all the way into the White House.

Agreed - LBJ apparently stated that if he lost Cronkite he'd lost middle America...

Didn't see him often over here, but from what I saw, he was one of the best...RIP Walter...:(
