Virgil Goode : Bad news for Mitt Romney

WASHINGTON — Virgil Goode, the presidential nominee for the conservative Constitution Party, qualified Tuesday for Virginia’s ballot in November, complicating Mitt Romney’s chances of winning the key swing state. Polls show a tightly contested race between Mr. Romney and President Obama.

Considering the fact that he's even more conservative than the Right-Wing Republicans, there's no chance he would cost votes to Obama but he will probably steal some to Mitt Romney. Knowing that Virginia is a swing state and that both Obama and Romney are toe-to-toe there, The guy could become a serious pain in the ass for the GOP.

Seems like, Virgil could do some good to America...

Porn Publisher Offers Cash for Romney Tax Info

I was sure it was wrong. A joke. A hoax. A hack. Something really from the Onion.

But no, apparently it’s for real.

Larry Flynt, the controversial publisher of the sexually explicit magazine Hustler, is “offering up to a million dollars in cash for documented evidence concerning Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney’s unreleased tax returns and/or details of his offshore assets, bank accounts and business partnerships.”

The offer will be made official via a number of full page ads in this week’s USA Today and Washington Post. You can see one of them on this page via the Hollywood Reporter (safe for work). If you’re looking for more info about the claim on Flynt’s Hustler magazine site, you won’t find it (definitely NOT safe for work).

I don't know him personally, but I've met this guy. He used to be a Democrat several years ago and then became an Independent... then later became a Republican. But back when he was a Democrat, he pissed off the Democrat leadership in VA when he decided to take on Chuck Robb (D) for the U.S. Senate seat back in the 90's - so he has a habit of being a fly in the ointment.

He's not stupid, but if you hear him speak, he does sound like a dumb hillbilly - something that contributed to Charlottesville (a more educated and advanced area of VA) voting him out back in 2008. But while not stupid, he is closely aligned with certain tea bagger and wingnut elements in VA... including one which apparently fostered a violent attack on the home of the brother of Tom Perriello... the man who beat Goode for his House seat in 2008. No one has suggested that Goode had anything (directly) to do with the attack. But he was known to be buddy-buddy with the group suspected of being in sympathy with those who did.

Like any true radical wingnut, Goode will just do what's right for him. And since Romney is in the cult of Mormon, in Goode's mind, that's probably almost as bad as having Obama, the African/Muslim/Communist/Nazi, as President. But with Obama and Romney very close here, and with Obama already ahead by a nose in most polls, this could certainly tank Romney in November. We have just enough wingnuts here that if Goode takes many votes from Romney, he'll lose this state. Romney will need each and every one of the tea bagger and wingnut votes.

VA Republicans are falling in line behind Romney/Ryan because many of them are small business owners or whitebread Conservatives with high-income jobs tied to the defense industry. Northern VA alone has a huge Romney Army mobilizing right now to get the vote. There are 24/7 roadside gatherings along major roads here where you can pick up free Romney signs and swag while connecting with volunteer opportunities.

I don't think Goode will hurt Romney in the more educated areas of the state: northern VA or central VA (including Albemarle Co./Charlottesville). Trouble is, Obama is already doing well in those areas. But in the less educated areas of the state, like southern VA, along the North Carolina line and in southwestern VA, out toward Tennessee and West Virgina, people like Goode seem to play really well. That's where you find the strongest support for the Tea Party and really strong Evangelical influences (the ones who think that Obama is an African Muslim, but also think that Mormonism is a cult). I think Romney's problem with Goode will be that he's going to hurt him in the areas of the state where he probably could win (Obama would never win SW VA). But Romney probably isn't going to win the more educated and populous area of the state (NoVA down to Charlottesville). It's really tight here. And Romney needs every one of those votes that wouldn't have gone to Obama anyway. Goode could mess that up - kind of like Nadar messing up Gore in FL several years ago.

But we'll see. This will make it even more interesting.
