Please remember those soldiers who have served and died doing their duty. This is not about whether any action is justified or not, or for that matter being ****** in combat. It's about honoring those that that payed the ultimate price for our freedom.
I do everyday. My freedoms mean everything to me and their sacrifices made that possible. God bless them always.

Memorial Day

As we stand here looking
At the flags upon these graves
Know these flags represent
A few of the true American brave

They fought for their Country
As man has through all of time
Except that these soldiers lying here
Fought for your country and mine

As we all are gathered here
To pay them our respect
Let's pass this word to others
It's what they would expect

I'm sure that they would do it
If it were me or you
To show we did not die in vein
But for the red, white and blue.

Let's pass on to our ********
And to those who never knew
What these soldiers died for
It's the least we can do

Let's not forget their families
Great pain they had to bear
Losing a ***, ****** or husband
They need to know we still care

No matter which war was fought
On the day that they died
I stand here looking at these flags
Filled with American pride.

So as the bugler plays out Taps
With its sweet and eerie sound
Pray for these soldiers lying here
In this sacred, hallowed ground.

Take home with you a sense of pride
You were here Memorial Day.
Celebrating the way Americans should
On this solemnest of days.

Re: U.S. members please remember

"The real heroes are the ones who never made it home"

"Grandpa, were you a hero in the war?
No. But I served in the company of heroes"

That about sums it up for me.

In about an hour or so, I'll be off to attend a local VFW event.

For years, I never went. I'm not particularly fond of the VFW and disagree many times over the stance they take on many national issues.

However, they've been trying for many years to get me to come to one of their events. This year it is a charity event in an effort to raise money for the families of fallen and wounded veterans.

I relented and agreed to come when the ****** of one of the boys rang me up and asked that I come. My wife taught 'Tommy' in school and he was a member of our volunteer fire department before he volunteered for the Army. Sharp, smart ***. He was ****** in Iraq earlier this year.

His ****** told me that lil' Tommy always looked up to me. Breaks your heart. His poor ****** is not taking it well at all. :(

So I'm setting aside my personal feelings and will be a "special guest" at the event to honor our own boys and girls.

For the sake of the families, I hope it goes well and that we are successful in raising money.

cheers,
R.

Re: U.S. members please remember

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate—we can not consecrate—we can not hallow—this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here.

Re: U.S. members please remember

I was there at the Tomb of Unknown Soldier at Arlington, Va.

I watched CBS 60 minutes twice until 5 a.m. thinking about those Iowa boys died in Iraq and the suffering of their families because their unit was extended 180 days of service until August, 2007.

I hope we pray for all of them a safe trip home !

Re: U.S. members please remember

To all those who have shed *****, lost limbs and extremities, and especially for those that paid the ultimate price for this country and for democracy, I most humbly and sincerely thank you.

To all those who were left behind through the misfortunes of war, through capture by the enemy, who lost their lives while your fellow soldiers, sailors, airmen, and Marines might yet carry on, I most humbly and sincerely thank you.

To all those who stood tall in the heat of battle; who were humbled, scared, uncertain, and unsure, yet still remained at their post and carried out their duty as members of this great nation's military, I most humbly and sincerely thank you.

I salute and honor each individual - man or woman - who has worn a uniform, carried out a duty, sworn an oath, fought in a battle, and remained true, even when criticized and castigated by your fellow countryman.

Each of you, in some small way, has left an indelible mark upon this nation's history. Each of you helped to ensure that our country remains and continues to evolve and move on.

I thank each one of you, whether ****** on or still alive, who served this beautiful, wonderful country of ours.

May God bless each one of you.

Finally, to those who were left behind in the hands of the enemy:

YOU ARE NOT FORGOTTEN.

Re: U.S. members please remember

I remember four of my friends who died in Vietman. They gave their life for their country. I honor and miss them.

Here's to remembering the people that sacrificed for our benifit. I just wish more people out there would treat it as more than a long weekend.

Thank you, Bodie.

It was a very beautiful, emotional ceremony. I thought it helped a lot of people heal.

It was heart breaking and yet also heart warming - hearing the boys and girls being honored by their friends, ****** and also sometimes, complete strangers. We shared some laughs, shed many tears; drank a toast or two.

And as I was their "special guest", I was coaxed into giving a speech. I have never been a man of speeches, but I told them a simple story of comradeship from my own time as a servant of arms.

The parents came and thanked me. As painful as the ceremony was, I suppose it was rewarding too. It is hard to comfort parents of wounded, disabled or lost ********; and we did the best we could.

It's late. I've had one too many a scotch tonight, chasing ghosts. Think I'll go to bed.

cheers,

At the school where i work we have a moment of silence every night before dinner, and last night i said that we will have a moment of silence for our trrops present and past.

My two uncles served in vietnam, one was a pilot in the USAF, the other also a pilot in the USMC. Some of their friends died at combat other never returned and went reported as missing. To those who served and sacrified their lives wether they were in the navy, usaf and usmc, know that you will be remembered for your bravery and for your courage as well as for honoring the flag and defending the interests of the United States.
My message is also a big thank you to the crews of the f100 supersabre,f105f, f4d, rf101 voodoo and f111a pilots who served on these planes in the past and who faught against sams, migs and t55-t62 tanks and that have risked their life every day in their duty.

May god bless each one of you
