Billy Corgan: Smashing Pumpkins star leaves TNA Impact Wrestling

Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan has left his role as president of TNA Impact Wrestling's parent company after less than three months.

The singer joined Impact Ventures in 2015 and became its president in August. But Impact Ventures has said he is "no longer with the company".

The move comes days after Corgan lost a court battle for control of the company.

He has now claimed he has not been paid and is owed $2.7m (£2.2m).

Writing on Twitter, he said he was "exploring all remedies including new filings with court".

Corgan rose to fame with his rock band in the 1990s and has been involved in the professional wrestling world for several years.

He joined Impact Ventures, the parent company of TNA Wrestling and Impact Wrestling, as a senior producer in 2015.

As well as moving to the role of president, he has appeared as an on-air personality on the Impact Wrestling TV show, which airs on the Pop TV channel in the US.

On Thursday, Impact Ventures chairman Dixie Carter said the company had received new funding from Anthem Sports & Entertainment Corp, which operates Canadian channel Fight Network.

Fight Network wrote on Twitter: "We reject Mr. Corgan's social media comments today re:mad:IMPACTWRESTLING. The matter is before courts/public discourse is inappropriate.

It added: "There is a solid financial plan for @IMPACTWRESTLING & Mr. Corgan's loan will be dealt with appropriately."

TNA Reportedly Wants To Bring Back Jeff Jarrett And May Partner With GFW

As we head into 2017, TNA is in the midst of a pretty thorough overhaul. Dixie Carter is out as primary shareholder, Billy Corgan is no longer with the company, and new owners Anthem Sports are in control. In addition, longtime head writer Dave Lagana has also departed, and the roster shake-ups have already begun. Now Impact Wrestling is considering bringing back founder and longtime TNA figurehead Jeff Jarrett, who has spent the last few years trying to find a television home for his promotion, Global Force Wrestling.

In a report at PWInsider.com (subscription required), Mike Johnson says Anthem Sports opened talks with Jarrett last Monday about returning. No agreement has been reached yet, but if Jarrett returns, Global Force Wrestling would remain its own separate entity.

Johnson speculated that TNA is hoping to bring back Jarrett and Scott D’Amore to head up their new creative division, in part as replacements for Lagana. There is also the possibility that Global Force would be part of some sort of Impact Wrestling company rebranding. Further, it’s possible GFW may finally find a home on Fight Network, which was reportedly looking to add more programming and was part of the impetus behind Anthem (Fight Network’s parent company) taking over TNA.

Perhaps not the surprising news of all time, but still mighty interesting. After all that TNA drama, they might end up with Jeff Jarrett at the wheel once again. It appears the slapnuts has become the slapnutter.

Matt Hardy on how his broken brilliance is fixing TNA Impact Wrestling

Matt Hardy has proven that even in today’s era of pro wrestling over-the-top characters can thrive and resonate with fans.

The “Broken” persona has been a shot in the arm for his career, as well as helped garner newfound interest in the TNA Impact Wrestling product. Hardy’s creative renaissance truly took shape during a feud with brother Jeff, dubbed Brother Nero. Their rivalry climaxed in a grand spectacle known as the “Final Deletion” at Hardy’s residence in Cameron, North Carolina.

With the off-the-wall vignettes leading up to the fight, unique way it was shot and overall production of the event, it became one of the most buzzed about matches. A sequel followed involving the Hardy Boys taking on the Decay in “Delete or Decay.” These concepts were so successful the 42-year-old and TNA are taking it a step further with “Total Nonstop Deletion.” The two-hour special edition of Impact Wrestling will air 8 p.m. ET Thursday, Dec. 15 on Pop TV. The show will feature Apocalypto with tag teams inside and outside involved in the ultimate battle to be the best.

Report: TNA Wrestling Undergoing A Name Change

The TNA name is in the process of being completely phased out in favor of Impact Wrestling. The move follows Anthem Sports and Entertainment’s acquiring of a majority stake in the company and the introduction of a new logo, as they look to freshen up the brand in hopes of taking it to greater heights.

Anthem’s takeover is the latest in a history of regime changes for the Nashville based company. The name transition is evident on the official Twitter and YouTube accounts, marking the first time since its birth in the early 2000s that company is not using the TNA name in some capacity.

The reasoning behind the change is said to be the connotations of the name, with the new owners determined to take the company in another direction. When TNA was started in 2002, many fans commented at the time that the “TNA” name might be a turnoff to some potential fans. It may have taken nearly 15 years, but it looks like a change is finally going to happen.

Backstage Report – More TNA Departures Very Likely

According to sources, more TNA departures could happen soon as the fallout continues to Anthem’s decision to play hardball over contracts and pay. They have approached several names about locking them into new deals, and if those names don’t come to terms quickly, they will likely be out. As reported earlier, Anthem is trying to lock talent into contracts and letting them walk if they don’t agree and adjusting the way they pay talent so that they are paid per date instead of per episode. Previously, even if TNA taped three episodes of TV at one taping, talent would be paid for each episode; now they will only be paid for working the one taping date. This obviously has many talents ticked off.

Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Reby Hardy, Drew Galloway, Mike Bennett, Maria Kanellis, and Jade have all left TNA this week as a result while Lashley, Moose, EC3, Eddie Edwards, Davey Richards, and Eli Drake have all committed to deals with TNA.
