Thank god a lot of these never came to fruition... or maybe not who knows. Tom Selleck as Indiana Jones!? Sly Stallone as Han Solo... that'd be crazy world to live in. :D

If Chuck Norris had been cast for the Karate Kid, both Daniel San and Mr. Miyagi would've gotten their asses kicked repeatedly, so it was probably for the best that he didn't star in it.

Most are interesting but #1 is amazingly ironic and fucking hilarious

 :surprise:

I remember when I got the Special Edition version of the Terminator on DVD, I jumped straight to the documentaries and it was mentioned that OJ Simpson was the original choice for the Terminator and they decided against it for the exact reason that was written. I just stared at the screen in disbelief.

To be fair, you can only say that because you know the eventual outcome. If these casting choices had happened, it's quite possible you might be saying differently.

There were a lot of people of scoffed at David Lean for using a comedian in The Bridge Over The River Kwai...but Alec Guinness did a hell of a job in that movie.
I remember when the whole Kim Bassinger/Boxing Helena thing came out. Good choice on her part...really was not that good of a movie.

At first, Cameron thought about Chuck Norris to play The Terminator. But then he realised that, having Chuck Norris as the Terminator would mean making a documentary

W.C. Fields as The Wizard. Contract dispute.
Shirley Temple as Dorothy. Didn't like her voice.
Ray Bolger as Tin Man. Wanted to play Scarecrow instead.
Buddy Ebsen. Originally the Scarecrow, switched to Tin Man, got sick from the makeup and couldn't finish the movie.

Quite a while ago, Richard Lester wanted The Beatles to have a part in the Lord of the Rings. The book was later deemed unfilmable at the time.

Depp turned down the title role in Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Mickey Rourke rejected the role of Butch in Pulp Fiction

Michelle Pfeiffer turned down the lead role in Basic Instinct as well as the lead in Pretty Woman

Clint Eastwood was originally offered the part of Paul Kersey in Death Wish after the success of Dirty Harry. Eastwood turned it down but recommended Gregory Peck to play Kersey. Bronson eventually got the part and made a Dirty Harry-type gritty cop flick himself named The Stone Killer.

I actually would have liked to see the first two. But Matthew Broderick was quite good in that movie and it's pretty much one of his few if not only memorable characters. Depp obviously doesn't regret that as much as Broderick would have.

Can't understand why Rourke passed down a role that was right down his alley. Michael Madsen is a good actor and I think he would have played the role of Vega just as well if not better, but you just can't imagine what it would be like since these films are treasured as they are.

Once Upon A Time in the West is a true Western classic, directed by the great Sergio Leon, who had made a name directing other westerns with Clint Eastwood. Eastwood had prior commitments, opening the door for Charles Bronson.
The movie starts with three gunmen waiting at a train station. Leon originally envisioned the three being played by the stars of his previous movie, The Good The Bad and The Ugly, Eastwood, Eli Wallach and Lee Van Cleef. Unfortunately, Eastwood's commitments kept him from this one, the parts instead being played by Jack Elam, Woody Strode and an Italian actor who hung himself to death after shooting his scene.

Oh, by the way...that Bronson guy who played the man with no name in Once Upon A Time In The West? He was originally to play the anti-hero in Leon's Man With No Name trilogy.

Frank Sinatra and John Wayne both turned down Dirty Harry....

I turned down the role of Jason Bourne because the character wasn't cool enough to be played by me. :pimpdaddy

Bourne must be one of the most overrated action movies ever. It's even sadder that an actual trilogy somehow got made. Of course the person they had playing the protagonist didn't help. It might have worked out with a more believable actor.
