Top 25 Rejected Movie Roles

Sean Connery as Gandalf???? loeeeeeeeeeeel

He was also offered Morpheus in The Matrix but turned it down for the same reason, he didn't understand the script. After seeing both The Matrix and LOTR turn into these giant franchises, he said yes to The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen even though he admitted he didn't understand that script either. Shame the movie sucked balls.

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
Depp turned down the title role in Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Mickey Rourke rejected the role of Butch in Pulp Fiction

Michelle Pfeiffer turned down the lead role in Basic Instinct as well as the lead in Pretty Woman

When Ferris Bueller was made, that would have been back around Depp's 21 Jump Street Days, right? I'm not sure that he would have had the comedic skills to pull it off back then the way he would now. But still, he'd have been an interesting choice.

Kind of like Depp playing Ferris Bueller, I'm not sure that Mickey Rourke could have brought the subtle humor to that part the way that Willis did. Rourke is a weird dude by nature, so maybe he could have made it work... just in a different way than Willis did.

Ever since seeing her in Scarface, I've been a huge Michelle Pfeiffer fan (and that was a rather fluffy part). If she'd been in Pretty Woman, maybe I'd have liked the movie... since I actually think Michelle is very pretty (I've really never understood all the fuss about Julia Roberts - to me she looks like her kooky brother, just with boobs and long hair). Also, I think Michelle could have easily pulled off the female lead in Basic Instinct. Not my favorite movie, though I think it was pretty good and Sharon Stone did a good job. But I think Michelle Pfeiffer would have made it even better, since I think she's a better actress than Sharon Stone.

Some of these choices, I'm really happy that they went down the way they did. I can't imagine John Wayne or Frank Sinatra as Dirty Harry. And yeah, just the idea of Lucas doing Apocalypse Now kind of makes me sick to my stomach right now.

1 O.J. Simpson in The Terminator?

Passed over for the role of the terminator because producers feared he wouldn't be taken seriously as a killer.

According to Patton Oswalt, Nick Nolte was originally considered for the part of Han Solo, and Nicolas Cage was supposed to be Superman at one point. Shame.
