Tip

A tip is...go figure...a tip.
If you deserve it you get it, otherwise nope, sorry.
I fight all the freaking time in LA when i take a taxi and the drivers don't know the roads, ask me how to reach the place, their cars are dirty and with no room or legs in the back and then after 60 bucks for 6 miles they PRETEND a tip even saying that they earn with tips and not with the job. Too bad. Change job or kick your boss in the ass. No tip for you.
In southers Europe people tip as a reward for a pleasant service and so it should be in the US as well.

Of course! You're an asshole if you don't. I mean I guess it's different in other countries, from what I hear anyway, but in the USA, it's an absolute must. Not only taxi drivers and waitresses, but also hair stylists, massage therapists, and some people are even known to tip mail men.

Tipping waitresses is extremely important because that's their paycheck. They make less than minimum wage, usually at about $2 and some odd cents per hour, and their tips are supposed to make up for that. I've worked as a waitress in multiple restaurants, so I know exactly what kind of bullshit they have to put up with, I've dealt with some serious assholes, so I absolutely always tip good, never less than $5 but usually more. Never base your tip off the quality of the food, how long it took the food to get to you, or whether or not the server seemed chipper and chatty with you. A server's job is to take your order, bring you drinks, bring you food, get you the check, bring you boxes if you want to take your food home, and clean up after you. Their job is NOT to be your best friend, and if they're not chipper and talkative, it's because they're either nervous, swamped, or someone that day yelled at her and called her names. And remember, if your food took longer than ideal to arrive to your table, it's not the server's fault, it's the kitchen's fault, so don't give your server a hard time about it.

Being a waitress is tough work. So be a nice guy and put a smile on her face by giving her a nice tip and not giving her a hard time.

This. I'm sorry if your job pays shit, but if you rely on tips to supplement your income, you're still going to have to earn them. I understand that waiting and bar work are tough gigs; I used to tend bar myself so I've been there--but I do my best not to make serving me as straightforward and pleasant as possible. But at the same time, I bust my hump to give great service when I'm working, and my job is one that society has deemed not to be tip-worthy; I'm not going to go over the bill unless your service is at least as good as I give when I'm working.

Yeah.... this is true too. I used to be a manager and some of the servers that came and went were seriously shitty, lazy ass bums, and some of them would get an attitude with customers for no good reason. That is never ok. So yeah, if your server really is crappy and you can see quite clearly that they aren't up to par and doing their job right, feel free to slack on the tip, but... overall, I always tip.

There was only one time that I didn't tip good. It was at Denny's, and I rarely eat there because almost every time I go, the service isn't great, but I still tipped. But this one particular time, it wasn't busy, we were one of maybe 5 tables there, and after we were finished eating and waiting for the bill, I saw the server texting on her phone at the counter, then sat down at the table in front of us to roll silverware. Literally 45 minutes went by that we were waiting for our check and she still never came, just sat there texting and rolling silverware, so we had to go up and get our check. I wasn't going to tip at all, I was so pissed off- never, ever, ever leave a table waiting that long for their check! Ever. But the guy I was with at the time left her 2 or 3 bucks.

So unless service is really legit crappy, I tip.

Many people that provide a service rely on the tips they get. So yes, I tip. But of course only if they deserve it like Sab already mentioned.

At the non emergency ambulance service I currently work for I like to get tipped either.

Not in Finland unless the service is really, really good. In the US, ALWAYS.

Tipping is not part of Finnish culture.

Only assholes refuse to tip. Fuck off, assari.

So you're waiter?

In my view you do not deserve a fucking penny.

It's different in Finland. Waitresses actually get paid.

Exactly.

A good principle.

If you get bad service do not pay.

-But not everyone has the extra money and tourist do not know American practices.

I would give maximum dollar tip and only then if the waiter asks >;D

-How hard work it is?

Do you give tip to taxi drivers and waitresses?

Yes.

Always tip well if you can afford to. If it's a place you frequent you can usually expect better service if you don't skimp. Also, (unless you're an asshole) then doing nice things for other people should probably make you feel better about yourself.

Well, tipping is part of American culture, but I will not give five dollar tip if I buy a five dollar hamburger. :sheep:

One dollar is enough.

I only tip when I like the service. Sometimes it gets added to the bill already "service charge" or something, in that case I don't tip.

What gets me is when places have their card machines ask you if you want to add a tip when you're paying by card. When I do tip I leave the tip on the table for my waiter to get, and I can only assume that places that take the tip from your card payments are dividing them between staff evenly or something similar; I don't want to tip everyone, just the person whose service warranted it.

In a lot of places tips are divided even when you tip cash. So the server still will often only get a percentage of what you leave.

The servive people know sometimes how to fleece money.

One euro is not too much of a tip, but ten euros is. :/

I don't ride in taxis, but I do tip waitstaff. You should tip at least two bucks on a ticket less than $10. Anything over $20 should get at least a five dollar tip. Don't be a cheap bastard, assari.
