This may be my last generation with consoles...

So depending on what the next Playstation and Xbox are able to do, I'm strongly considering jumping ship and going to PC gaming. Anyone else doing this? As much as I love consoles (been playing them since NES days) it appears to me that they are falling waaaay behind and nothing wows me with them anymore. I have looked at this set up and might start saving for it. It's the CyberPower PC Black Pearl https://www.cyberpowerpc.com/system/CyberPower_Black_Pearl. Looks pretty freaking sweet.

I haven't completely lost faith in consoles but things just don't look good for the future of console gaming

Part of the big advantage consoles have over PCs now (other than the fact you know it will work and be compatible will all the components on your system when you put the disk in) is that consoles still haven't gotten too far into the stupid draconian DRM that most PC games have now,...at least not yet. Being able to legally sell a used console game is also nice for a lot of people.

A lot of people also don't want to spend a few grand every couple of years to get a new PC just so they can play the best games at the highest system requirements and have it be worth it.

Add in the fact that most video game producers are going away from PC stuff outside of MMOs and I'm surprised PC gaming is holding on as well as it is.

The only games that should be played on a PC are RTS' and FPS'.

This.

From what I can tell, a lot of video game developers are starting to make their games for PC (in addition to console) now compared to a couple years ago.

I'm with you on the sentiment but not for the same reason. I don't know as I'm getting older I'm just finding less and less time to play and really there aren't many games that interest me anymore. I probably won't give up gaming completely but I definitely don't see myself being so into it as I was in my teens.

I can definitely understand the desire to jump ship. If my XBOX didn't do so many other things than play games (i.e. netflix, stream special events/news, connect me to friends, etc.) on my TV, I wouldn't have one either. It is much easier to upgrade a PC every year or so and simply buy a console controller for it. I mean it's the same (sometimes better) graphics, it has more customization with things like mods, and the ability to do pretty much anything that a console can only a bit better.

The only other downside would be console exclusive games, and the ability to buy/rent used games.

Nintendo-Done with these fuckers. Rehashing Mario and thinking (guaranteed) of killing F-Zero because it can't "evolve".
Sony-Done. Killed the team behind WipEout. No WipEout, no reason for me to purchase future Sony systems
Microsoft-Safe. Seeing how Microsoft supports classic style shooters like Cave's DoDonPachi and ESPGaluda, I have hope that they'll keep this up on their new system.
PC-Master Race. I'll never like a console more.

You only got Playstation for Wipeout? You're missing out.

I gave up on console gaming in 2007 when I realised the only reason I had one was for games like Madden and they had become stale to me. Outside of GW2, Skyrim, and WoW, most of the games I play these days are from sales off of Steam. If you can avoid the temptation to buy games when they first come out most of the games will go on sale within a couple of months of release.
