"Little Green Apples" while maybe on the corny side is not all that bad.It was a big hit for O.C. Smith and has been covered something like a 100 times. Little Green Apples- O.C. Smith- 1968 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TMe21FYciL0
But then again there are songs that were big hits that I can't stand as well so I guess it's all a matter of taste. For example I have never been able to stand "Angie" by the rolling stones.
I should just have qualified this.
I was making it a bit personal in a roundabout way.
In the film "The Fabulous Baker Boys" 1989, these two guys, played by the Bridges brothers, had such marvelous talent. They played piano with such style and talent.
I myself have played music live at gigs for a number of years. Not that I had marvelous talent - well, ahem, maybe.
After hours of practice, selecting some really good songs like fr'instance "Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum, or "Legs" by ZZ Top or some such thing, some geezer comes up to the stage with: "Play us sunfingk lekka man. Ja like "Achy Breaky Heart" or "Going Back West" hey.
At which point you want to take your guitar and, well you can use your imagination.
In that film, time after time, folk would come up and ask for the "Little Green Apples" song, as it happened to the real Baker Brothers. These poor dudes then had to haul it out for the umpteenth time. Mind you they could have done something more with their talent I am sure if they had put their minds to it.
I get what you are saying. :glugglug:
It is just that most people seem to go for corny or easy to sing tunes. Like "I Feel It In My Fingers." How many times did I not have to play that one.
It is sooooooo depressing. It is the reason why I don't play anymore. :hatsoff:
It is nice to see on youtube some artists who would not stand a chance in hell of ever getting heard by a majority of people now get airtime.
