I don't get why people have a problem with this. If your a business and your going to except assistance from the government, it seems like it's only common sense that the government gets to put reasonable restrictions on you if you choose to accept that assistance in that instance. Would people actually prefer if we just gave them money and let them do what ever they wanted with it?
In principle I agree with your sentiment, however, how is this the business of government ? It never was, previous. What kinds of after effects will linger after the dust settles and the economy recouperates ? Will these bailed out businesses be subject to government dictate forever ?
I resent the government inflating the currency all the more, with each and every bailout agreement, and then, adding insult to injury, acquiring positions of power within those publicly traded entities. It's almost coercive, what they're doing with this bailout program. Shouldn't this require the consent of The People ?
The bailout scheme reminds me of those "temporary" taxes that the government likes to impose upon us . . . there is nothing temporary about them at all. They (taxes) linger on as a general obligation to the taxpayer, even after the fiscal corrections are made.
"The camels nose is in the tent" is one of my favorite expressions and it certainly applies here, IMO.
