The Official Formula 1 Racing Thread

Ferrari not showing their usual race pace, was it the lower temperature stopping them getting the best grip out of the tyres? Either way it dropped Vettel behind the 1 stopping Verstappen and could have put him behind Ricciardo too but Daniel had a scruffy race.

Verstappen finally had a good result, not entirely clean but in this case I think the backmarker slowed up too much unexpectedly and caught him out, I'd have to see it again though.

Grosjean is on his way out, he's getting badly outperformed by Magnussen and is making errors aplenty. If they had a good reserve driver, he'd be under serious pressure to be replaced mid season.

The Monaco GP is coming up tomorrow, Training and Qualifying promise another nailbiter. Red Bull is meandering between a superior car setup, Riccardo's fantastic and consistent driving, and "Mad Max" Verstappen is showing signs of wear, he can't seem to find the fine line between pushing himself, his car and tactics to excellence and all-out Motor Mayhem. Nico Rosberg, a commentator for RTL tv is probably right: He is in it for long enough now to have learned the line, and if he keeps on driving like he does, crtashing cars and taking out the competition, he mighjt not be safe for driving in F1

Yeah, Max crashed his car before qualifying, and he has to follow the field.

If I was betting man, I'd put my house on Verstappen not making it round a single lap.

Man, Lewis laid down in Canada like he was a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

And then Mercedes laid down in Austria. A wonky fuel pump! :wtf:

But a great run by Lewis today to capture his 76th career pole - and even better, his 4th Silverstone pole in a row and 6th of his career (another record). Now I just hope the car/engine stays together tomorrow.

Perpective: This is the last GP tthere for now. Sadly, most german states are cutting funds for these things, and so we will have to hope it comes back as soon as can be.

WHAT AN EPIC RACE

Can anybody feel worse that suday than Sebastian Vettel, after sliding off track into the gravel field, right in front of the Sachs Corner, the Mercedes Team grandstand? He had the race in his pocket from the very start, totally controlling things, just to make that one mistake in that corenr, that left him with nothing just a handful of rounds to finish. And Mercedes got 1st & 2nd, and Lewis Hamilton showed his genius, again.

The Hungaroring delivered a nice GP, after all. It took some heat issues, the tire poker was a factor, and there WAS some serious racing going on.

My favorite detail is, that Kimi had a malfunction in his water supply system, so he was the only guy who couldn't ***** along the racing. And he made it onto the podium!

Now it is F1 summer pause, until the 26th of August, in Spa

It took me until last night to finally catch up on watching the races on my DVR. Like everyone else, I was amazed at how Germany turned out. And the rain in Hungary really scrambled qualifying. All I can say now is, Bottas has to be the most jinxed driver on the grid. But these were two great races.

Also, R.I.P. Sergio.

Thirsty. Almost running out of hope I will make it through. The day is near, and free training has been run - and happy days are here again

SPA, The Belgian Grand Prix of 2018, the first of the remaining 9 races to finish this season

I feel pumped!

One of my favourite tracks. Great to race in Real Racing 3. Some slow tricky corners and a lot of fast turns and straights. 70% of the circuit taken at full throttle.

A little rain could make for a spectacular race.

And that "Eau Rouge" passage makes for a LOT of wonderful racing moments

And, looking at the weather forecast, it will be a poker game about when to set up your car for wet and dry stretches. and the usual number of pilots wiping off the track

The one thing that was missing was rain in the race. During Friday and aturday, that was an ingredient, but race day was dry.

Otherwise:

The usual Spa drama

I don't like the halo but it's better than seeing a driver ****** or seriously injured. It pretty well protected Leclerc from a flying McLaren.

Absolutely. I hope the Halo construction will get further developed, and the visual impairment of the pilots minimized.

But better having a couple percent less view than having your head ripped off

Monza was tragic for Ferrari. It all looked so good, the front row in the starting grid belonged to Raikkonen and Vettel, so the Grand Prix promised a fat bounty for the Reds. But it went so very different.

Hamilton had promised he would "try everything" to win this, and he literally did just taht, right from the start. But in the corners 4 and 5, a left/right combination (Variante della Roggia), Hamilton, third, behind Vettel, pushed in, around the outside, and, when he was slightly in front, coming into the second part of that combination, he was on the ideal path, and Vettel had to decide:

Do I go a more outside way, leaving my biggest opponent to go ahead in front of me, who HAS to win the italian GP...
Or do I push back in and try to stay head to head with Hamilton?

Vettel chose #2, and he chose wrong. Both cars touiched, but, not a surprise, the inside car has the advantadge, and the outside car, the Ferrari, was spun around and had to let the field pass, being in 18th position now, with a damaged body.

That was the key situation
