not when sports illustrated is involved. one year they actually picked oregon state to win the title. they finished unranked. ill wait to make a real prediction until week five or so.

Notre Dame didn't beat a single ranked team all last year...and I can't remember the last time they won a bowl game. I can't believe everyone is ready to just hand them the National Championship.

actually, they beat pittsburgh when they were ranked #23, they beat michigan when they were #3, they beat purdue (forgot what rank they were), and almost beat out #1 USC if not for last second heroics.

another reason they're saying notre dame is going to go far is because they have one of the top 3 QBs, if not the top one, the best receiver, the best offensive line, a great safety and free safety, and quick team defense

I can't believe that everyone is completely overlooking Minnesota this year! Okay, maybe they did lose the heart of their offensive line (including the Outland Trophy winner for best interior lineman), and two 1,000+ yard rushers, and maybe their defensive line is laughably undersized, and the... aww crap! They are gonna suck this year! :o

That might be true but I just can't help but get the feeling that Brady Quinn seems overrated.

for some reason, i dont think you are close to accurate. of those four teams, only notre dame has a great shot. ohio state will bet beat up in the big10. texas and usc? what do they have leftover from those two great teams last year? usc lost their offense(not the recievers,wow) and texas lost the guy that was the only reason they won last year. but, who knows? this is why i love ncaa football over pro.

I have a feeling you don't pay a whole lot of attention to what goes on in the SEC, Big 12, Big 10 or Pac 10. Besides Texas, Ohio State and USC, there are some real sleepers out there who could make a run like Auburn, Oklahoma (so what if they lost Bomar??....they are still loaded), LSU, West Virginia, Florida, Cal....even Florida State or Miami perhaps. But I do agree with you that NCAA football is the best!

I have a feeling you don't pay a whole lot of attention to what goes on in the SEC, Big 12, Big 10 or Pac 10. im force fed the pac10. i follow the big12 religiously. both are shown on foxsportsnet. as for the rest, i watch on espn like everyone else. and reread post that i was answering. i was talking about the four teams that someone else said was going to win. i know all about sleepers. my huskers will make a run this year.

OK fair enough. My point was that I wouldn't be so quick to write off the Longhorns, Trojans and Buckeyes. Yeah, Vince Young was unbelievable but anyone who follows the 'horns knows the depth of talent they have on both sides of the ball. Young was not the "only reason" they won it all last year. And as for USC....they don''t rebuild....they reload. Oh....and Troy Smith is probably the best offensive threat in the nation (no disrespect to Brady Quinn, Adrian Peterson, etc). If OSU's defense can step up, they will be tough.

As for the Irish....they will be very good no doubt but to see people here arbitrarily handing them the title, summarily dismissing other teams as having no shot at all and calling Charlie Weiss a "genius" after one season seems just a bit homerish and arrogant to me.

Anyway....let the games begin.....

Oh....and I agree the Huskers are the team to beat in the Big 12 North but that's a little like saying the Mets are the best team in the NL.

No dude not specifically referring to you alone so no offense meant. My comment about Weiss is in reference to the fact that he has accomplished nothing in the college ranks to pin him with the "genius" label just yet so perhaps we should wait until he does before annointing him with that moniker.

Well, I'd hardly call an OT loss an "owning". So, that kinda negates the last five year comment. Plus, State was on fire to start the year last year. They fizzled at the end. No shame in that loss.

As for the 4 previous years, well, Willingsuck was the coach. We were lucky to win one game a year with that fool running The Program.

He's gone, and Charlie will restore the glory to the greatest football program in the land.
