This game is like Crack. I play it all the time. Just finished all Guild quests and I'm now finishing up the main quest. Getting all the Daedric artifacts is awesome too.

I played oblivion intensely for maybe 2 weeks.. before getting thoroughly tired with its shortcomings. I modded the game up so the weapons stayed balanced.. (you could sneak-arrow ANYONE at level 1 but 20 levels later its easier to whip out a cheap blade and slice them instead of hitting them a dozen times otherwise)
It really took me out of the experience because the game gets more difficult the better your skills and level get. There is no reward for buffing stats and level.
The quests were go-here, get-that fare.. which cant be helped; but considering the loading time for simple quests.. eh, it just wasnt worth it for me. When the oblivion overhaul mod gets a couple more tweaks.. hell yes. Better than morrowind in so many ways, but worse in others.
Still, some quests are awesome. And the sneaking system is vastly improved.

Although the game is a bit aged, but many mods -- along with the fact that the game was designed for cutting edge hardware at its release (and PC hardware that didn't exist yet at very high settings/resolutions) -- can really give it some serious eye-candy during your adventures (along with new, exciting adventures too).

The RPG element is solid and a bit more refined. The character generation system is unique. You play through stages of childhood (but at the end you can wipe it out and create your character however you like).
If you played and enjoyed Oblivion then you will definitely dig Fallout 3.

Fallout 3 has great RPG elements.....the only thing I don't like is how your character cannot move past level 20.....not sure why they decided to do that. The game is incredible though. I have no life right now......it's been Fallout 3 non-stop.

i purchased this game a few months ago (never a big RPG fan until Fallout3)
and over the past week i have started to get into oblivion (very late i know)
but i didnt get a manual with the game (used game) i have no idea what the symbols on the top of the inventory screen mean.
i figure the feather (means weight),the shield (protection) the heart (condition of armor/weapon)
and i also have no idea how to "make" magic or create magic what you need to do to make better spells and such. plus some of the potions say "damage for 8secs at level 20" i have no idea what most of this means.
does anyone have a webstie where i can find this out? or can anyone explain it a bit?

Play one time, say to level 10, and enjoy it. You'll learn much about the game. Then consider re-starting and doing things "more efficiently."
It's up to you, but I do not recommend doing the main quest immediately and rushing out to Kavatch (don't go near it). If you want to rush and do it, it's up to you, especially at lower levels (difficult, but enemies aren't as leveled and any allies are of more help).
One of the things that really makes Oblivion different from almost every other RPG (even Fallout 3 that uses the same, base engine) is that your skills increase by usage, not by level. In fact, you level when you increase your "major" enough times. But you'll want to balance your "major" skills, as well as increase your "minor" skills, so you level up well -- both from the skill abilities to also making sure you can increase 2-3 attributes at +5.

i read your post and i never worry about mistakes or being efficient.
i just needed to better understand the columns in inventory,create magic,use spells.
i walked into Fallout3 NEVER playing an RPG in my life and i hated it at 1st almost stopped playing it completely, gave myself 2 weeks to regroup and then went back to the game and Since then i never looked back . i love RPG games now.
i need to know more about the magic and spells and potions cause all i do is go into places and arm my sword and shield and slash away at everyone.
is there anyone nice around? i came out of the castle,crossed the river met 2 ladies who attacked me. went into that place (???) cleared it,came out went to the Fort,cleared that, went to the Inn got some info,then went down the road a bit and 2 more people attacked me.killed them went into their "area" cleared it out. then i am going to get the witch who brings back the undead up the road from the Inn
i barely walked into their room and they attacked.

It blows compared to Morrowind. It's decent but nothing that I thought it would be seeing it would be on better technology and having spent a good part of gaming playing Morrowind.
Well...Morrowind is the greatest game ever so it was kind'a hard to top.
I need to play that again. Never did finish the main story.
The Wiki is 100x more complete, especially if you get into loading mods (PC).

I originally started with the Xbox 360 on a 1080p TV back in very late 2005. People used to come over and drool at it.
I later picked up the PC version because you can mod it so much.
The official mods (aka Expansions) are great, but some of the unofficial mods make it a killer game for both replay and maximizing the gameplay.
With today's PC cards you can really bump up the textures and quality with several, unofficial add-ons.
