The new Toyota Supra

Mainly for insurance reasons. 2 seats = pure sports car (recreational) = high premiums. 4 seats = GT car = more moderate premiums.

yes, but obviously when they made those they have thought that rarely someone would sit behind. well there are a lot 4 door high performance cars.

Looks nice...but a pain in the ass to wash and wax with all of those ducts and corners.

Agreed. The old supras did not have all that extra crap. This looks like a generic supercar. The Supra was in between a muscle car and a GT car. It had a distinctive look. This new one just doesn't stand out at all.

I think the newer Skyline that came out a few years ago is closer in spirit to its predecessor than this new Supra.

larss

I'm watching some specialist videos
yea, i know, but it comes as 4 seater from factory but those seats are made to be removed! :D haven't been in touch with the GT86 here, but A bud of mine has an AE86

GT86 is Scion FR-S in the US.
Subaru also market the same car as BRZ (slightly different setup but essentially the same car)
All use the same Subaru 4 cylinder boxer engine.

yes. but I still think that in design the mk4 supra beats this new one.

I know 3 different names, same car, but toyota wanted to do something extra and put the legendary 86 number in it, altho nothing really has with the AE86

Mk4 Supra is the best Supra, I agree. I do not like this new one.

Considering this would be at least a 17 year old car in the North American market, these things have really withstood the test of time, whether stock or modded. Never owned or driven one. But I still give them much respect. Now that's a damn nice looking car!

There's some guy who preps race cars near the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi. Apparently drag racing is VERY popular over there. On some show I was watching called "Drive" (I think), he had at least four or five of these babies lined up. And they had sculpted hoods with HUGE turbos nested inside. If they were 330 hp stock (here), I'd be afraid to guess where he had taken the ones he had. 3.0 liter straight 6 turbo, right? I bet you could still get enough torque out of that turbo straight 6 to toast most modern V8's.

yes, the 2jz engine was ment to be 600hp, but later was detuned when supra got into production. that engine can handle big turbos, nearly truck size ones, and the supra design is really timeless, those designers can beat these new dumb ones far away. just look at the rear sides, it's like you have 2 women sweet butts put together.

I wonder if anyone has pulled the 4.5 straight six out of the older land cruiser and swapped it into a car, with turbos added.

Might be interesting, since inlines have great torque compared to V configurations. But I don't know what the compression ratio is on that engine. To run an engine that was designed to be normally aspirated with boost, it's generally a good idea to drop the compression to something below 9:1 or so. You can do some exotic (read: expensive) things to seal the headgaskets, but dropping the compression is the more common way to go about it. What some tuners do is add turbo or supercharger kits to N.A. engines, keep the compression the same, but run boost levels that are very low.

not a fan of supra, fan of older audi a8s of the 1st and 2nd generation, w126 mercedes benz class s 560 sel, w140 mercedes benz class s600 sel and muscle cars (yes mopars and gm cars with big block engines), I don't mind luxury full sizes from the 60's-70's but mostly from mopar because of the torsion quiet ride, biggest room space available, best handling, reliability of the torqueflite 727 auto transmission and the 440ci engine (which when tuned with proper and appropriate mopar performance parts can easily reach the 700 hp and 600lbs/ft of torque at 3500-4000rpm)

Sonofabitch! 1400hp without nitrous, 1600hp with!

That car/design is about 20 years old and it's still sweet as hell. Watching him pull out and try to contain all that power was wicked. Yeah! :hatsoff:

I am no fan of most asian cars. But a number of them really do stand out, and, yes, the Supra wears its name very fittingly.
