The Greatest Horror/Sci-Fi Anthology Series' Episodes

These are anthology shows like The Twilight Zone or Tales From The Crypt and the like. Here are my Top 10:

10: Green Fingers--Night Gallery: Elsa Lanchester plays an old woman who loves gardening, and she can make ANYTHING grow. So she tells the developers who want to take her house and build a site. It's when they start to muscle in that she gives them a real gardening lesson.
9: Gather Ye Acorns--Amazing Stories: Mark Hamill is a homeless bum who follows the advice given him as a child by a troll, to "dream, not do." Of course, this leads him down the path to a meager existence, aimlessly collecting odd knick-knacks which he crowds into his car. Hmmm....wonder if they're worth anything...
8: The Hidden Thing--Alfred Hitchcock Presents: Dana Edwards plays a man besieged by grief after his fiancee is killed by a hit-and-run driver. Soon he is visited by a man claiming to be an expert at memory recall. Can he help him remember the car's plate number? And is he really who he claims to be?
7: Soldier--The Outer Limits: A futuristic soldier programmed only to kill is teleported into the present, where a doctor tries to unlock the human side of him. That is, until another soldier from the future comes to eliminate him. Sound familiar?
6: Battleground--Stephen King's Nightmares And Dreamscapes: William Hurt plays a hitman who, upon returning to his apartment following a big kill, finds a strange package: a collection of miniature toy soldiers. Let me tell you...these soldiers ain't fake.
5: To Serve Man--The Twilight Zone: A race of tall, big-headed aliens land on Earth with a book which they claim outlines their plans to help all mankind. So they start taking the Earthlings away to "visit" their planet. Good thing we have a good translator!
4: Staired In Horror--Tales From The Crypt: D.B. Sweeney plays a criminal fugitive seeking refuge from an old woman in a remote house. After forcing his way in, he finds the old woman and her stairway have a kind of symbiotic relationship. And so will he.
3: It's A Good Life--The Twilight Zone: Billy Mumy is a kid with super powers. He can do anything, so don't piss him off. He holds an entire Ohio town captive. It's a good episode.
2: Collection Completed--Tales From The Crypt: Audra Lindley and M. Emmet Walsh are delightful as a couple coming to terms with his forced retirement. She's an animal lover who has collected dozens of pets throughout the years, and he's a bitter animal hater...who has just taken up taxidermy as a hobby.
1: And When The Sky Was Opened--The Twilight Zone: Rod Taylor, Jim Hutton, and the rest are marvelous in this creepy and unsettling classic. Three astronauts return to Earth after a failed mission, only to have all evidence and knowledge of them disappear...except for the next to go.

So...what are your favorite episodes?

Let me throw a few out:
The Switch (Tales From The Crypt):Actually I was surprised when Arnold Schwarzenagger directed this one. The tale of a rich old man that loves a younger woman and the only way he can win her love is to have plastic surgery in the most extreme way.

That Twilight Zone episode where Burgess Meridith plays a bank security guard and is the only survivor because he hid in the bank vault...Also the episode with Dennis Hopper called "He's Alive" and the original and modern version of "Kick The Can" were my favorite Twilight Zone episodes.

Cigarette Burns which was a great episode of Masters of Horror directed by John Carpenter.

And my last was a horror tv series which was aptly titled: Friday the 13th The Series and my favorite episode of that was "Tails You Lose" which was about this ancient coin that a satanic cult was using to bring back dead members from the grave.

Freddy's Nightmares

"No More Mr. Nice Guy"

About as close to an origin movie featuring Englund's Freddy Kruger as we ever got. It's the pilot episode for this particular series, and for my money, the most memorable.

Twilight Zone
___________

"It's a Good Life"

The little shit is like a mod. He banhammers people who don't respect and follow the rules. The sequel "It's Still a Good Life" wasn't a bad follow up.

"Time enough at Last"

One of the best endings to have come out of the series. Such a memorable peformance by Burgess Meredith.

"The Hunt"

Just always liked this episode about an old man not going directly to heaven, and damn near being tricked into walking right into hell if not for his trusty dog.

"The Masks"

Another episode that is simply outstanding due to it's ending.

The Outer Limits
______________

"The Zanti Misfits"

Great episode featuring alien convicts from the planet Zanti who are ten inch-long ants with human faces and (apparently) poison stingers. You do not want to find one of these in your bed.

Even though it was short lived, there was a tv series on Fox when it first started simply called Werewolf which was pretty cool, with good special effects for that time period.

A Case Of The Stubborns--Tales From The Dark Side: A funny episode about a dead grandpa who attends his own wake. Right out of a silly dream. Really well done.

Family Man--Fear Itself: A great episode when this church going husband and father falls into a coma and wakes up realizing that his conciousness has transferred into a serial killer's body as well as the killer's mind transferring into his.

X-Files : Darkness Falls

A group of glowing green insects swarm and kill loggers in a Washington forest as darkness falls.

Twilight Zone (the new show) episode where they were in the plane and the old man was the pilot but he was flying a toy plane and eating nuts and bolts off the plane. I know, I was rambling on, but that episode made me shit for ten years!

I recently borrowed the entire X-Files box set from the glorious Aly Sinclair and watched the ENTIRE collection in one week! I'm a sucker for anything horror/sci-fi/conspiracy/ufo/ghost related... Ahhh it was awesome, I should watch it again.

Not sure if it qualify as anthology, but I really like the show Supernatural.

Vlad The Impaler

Cool thread. Anybody remember Brimstone. Great show only got canceled because Fox wanted to move away from all the doomsday stuff they had at the time (X-files and Millennium/also great).

Good idea for a show. It's not really a horror anthology show, like The Twilight Zone or Tales From The Crypt, but a good idea. Too bad it was canceled.
