I can't ride anymore due to neck injuries but my last bike was a Honda ST-1300 and before that this baby - first Valkyrie in Europe - flew it over on Luftansa in the crate and was driving it the same day.

My%20Valk4s.jpg

Before that I had a number of bikes to include but limited to; three Gold Wings, an CBR 900, V-65 Saber, KLR 650, two DT-400's, VFR-750, RD350, Bultaco 360, and a bunch more......

Sweet bike, but I find it sits too low - How tall are you? I'm 186 cm.

The lower the better. I won't do it until the bike needs shocks, or fork springs...but I'll lower mine another 2" when I do replace them. Don't forget, your bike is made for something different, and is designed to handle, and is balanced for a more sport bike position. A cruiser, whether it be a Japanese bike, a Harley, or an after market chopper, all have lower centers of gravity, and aren't really laying into the pavement to take corners at 50mph. Plus, bikes like Beemers, and Ducati's, are made to preform, in their home lands...not on Main Street USA.

Indeed, this is all true. I'm just used to the taller bikes. I'm pretty uncomfortable going down the highway on a Harley, it's just not the style of bike I like riding.

That's not to say I dislike the bikes. I like the styling, the centre of gravity, and the handling, I just won't ever have one for myself.

Well I'm a big guy, so I can't really get comfortable on anything but a big Harley...can't even make them work without forward controls, or floor boards. But I'll tell you this, if I was 180lbs., I wouldn't think twice about buying a 1198 Ducati Superbike. It wouldn't be my first ride...that will ALWAYS be a Harley, but I wouldn't mind tearin it up once and a while!

Probably the only thing that would get me to put on a helmet and full leathers!

Well, good thing there is more than one model of bike available to us, hey? :) We all like different things.

Also, every time I get on my bike, I put on a helmet and full suit (Kevlar knees, elbows, back, and so forth). I know I'm fine, but I don't trust other people driving.

Hey any of you lovely ladies that are here on freeones that wanna do some photoshoots on bikes they should hit us up because i'm sure we won't mind seeing them posing on our bikes! ;)

Bumping this out of the woodwork. Who else is riding and what you got?

I ride a 2018 Honda CBR650F as my primary vehicle. She's a good girl. Comfy and sleek at the same time.

I rode my bike one whole time this year. My arthritis has become horribly painful, and Softails just aren't really soft. It breaks my heart to think I have a 12 year old bike, and it only has 12k miles on it. Shit has gone down hill for me, fast and hard....I think it's time for a trike. I'm fucking old now.

Ouch, depressing. I saw a trike the other day, seemed decent enough. You gotta do what you gotta do. Reckon you can get a healthy sum used for her and put it towards something that works for you, if thats something you still feel like doing.

Fuck no. The book value is less then 8k. A couple of years ago, I went to the dealership I bought her at, they offered me 7500 if I bought used, and 10k if I bought new, and the value was at 11 or 12 thousand back then. Maybe outright I can get 12k if the right buyer comes along, but the longer I wait, the less it's worth....although I haven't really tried to sell it, so who knows. The days of Harley's being worth big bucks, and holding their value are gone.

What about you, I'll make you a good deal on her.

I should add....I've got over 20 thousand dollars into that bike.

That's crazy. I thought Harleys held their value better. Maybe there's a point where it becomes more valuable as it ages. People get really nostalgic for older bikes sometimes. You know how sometimes people stop riding and then come back to it and want what they had or what was new at the time.

For me, I learned on a sportbike and just feel more comfortable on a sport. My friend just started riding and he's got a smaller Yamaha style cruiser. I sat on it and was like.. i don't think I can ride with my feet up front like that. And he was the same on mine. :p I do admit, I ride a 650 and I have no idea what it would feel like being on a 1200 like some of these Harley's. That's some raw power from what I can fathom.

It might. I store it properly, and treat it very well, so maybe if I hang on to it for a decade, who knows. She's paid for, so it's not going to cost me any more then it has. I learned on a Harley, my first bike was a Sportster. As far as power goes, it's a different kind of power. Your 650 will obviously smoke my bike, which is 96 inches....not sure of the cc's, I think it's like 1500 or something. It's VERY hard, and expensive to make a Harley pull the same timed quarter mile. In fact, weight to power ratio matters as much. I'm a big guy, you saw my picture. I would need to be on an 1100 GSXR to keep up with you on a 650....assuming you are average weight. The raw power you speak of is really more torque, and an illusion you hear because we make 'em loud. That old bike I had in this thread, would pull low 13's in a quarter, and it cost me 3 grand 25 years ago....and it also cost me reliability. I wrenched on that thing all the time.

If you want power, stay where you're at, or bump up to a 750/900. When you want people to look at you, and you just want to putt around, that's when you buy a Harley. If I would have started on a sport bike, I would have died long ago. I've been in two wrecks already, and walked away twice, but I was going slower, on a heavy bike.
