The FreeOnes Motorcycle Club

It's been on the dyno. The new Harley's are all computerized, and electronic, any time you do ANYTHING to the bike, they have to dyno it...for 3 hours...at $70.00 per hour . I know what you're saying, but when they set it up, for low, mid and high rpm performance, they set the fuel injection, and all of that happy horse shit. I have a problem with the throttle...I like to crank it all the way. It's gotten me arrested on the old bike...probably will on this one. They got me doing 103, in a 35...long story, but I did avoid the fleeing and alluding charge.

As far as the paint goes, I know there are guys that can match it. I meant, if I want to change the color, or do flames, etc. I have to buy new sheet metal, so I can store the special order tank/fenders, because I like to have all of the original parts just in case. If it were just a standard factory color, I could paint right over it.

A Beemer is always going to get better performance then a Harley...it's not for attention whoring, it's for touring and transportation. I worked with a guy that had a K1100...he put 14,000mi on it, in one season. He belonged to a BMW club, did the "4 corners" run. Had a suit he could plug into the bike...fucking rode all year, as long as the ground was dry. I used to do March to November, or the first snowfall. Hell, I would ride in Jan., if it were dry...but no more. I'm to old for that shit. late April, to late Oct., no rain, no wrenching...I doubt I'll even change the fuckin oil myself anymore. I wanna ride, I'm done digging for the right socket!

I totally get what you're saying, but I'm still at the point where I'm enjoying working on the bike a bit, too. Not that the bike I have needs any working on. I do my own oil changes, and such, but I also get a pro to have a good look at it often. This is too much of an investment not to keep it up to top shape.

I should say that the bike I have is a 2000 - so already 11 years old. It just broke 35K miles. :D It's like brand new. These bikes go forever. And that's good, as I seem to be putting about 11K miles per year on it.

And I ride all year - even if there is snow on the ground. As long as the roads aren't covered in ice, I'll ride the bike. It is easier to do that with a full fairing and heated grips.

I think my best year was 9000mi...I already have 900 on the new one, and I've only had it about 7 weeks...2 of which it was down, ALREADY! Fuckin Harleys. My late buddy Joe, and I rebuilt the old one...total out of frame, down to the bottom end rebuild, I've done it, I'm done doing it. I live in Cleveland. Ever here of lake effect snow? It's ugly, and deep! The new one is a '07, it had just under 6000mi on it when I got her. The new ones are good for 60 or 70 thousand, before a rebuild, where as the Shovel heads needed it about 20, or 25, depending on how hard you rode it. These twin cam, fuel injected bikes are unbelievable...if I would have known this in 2005 when they came out, I would have done it sooner.

I don't think any of those clubs get along anyway...if they do, it isn't with the H.A., which is the club that runs things in my area.

Yeah. Lake effect snow blows the balls. I get it here, too. I still often risk it. Fairly often I end up walking home and waiting for the snow to melt so I can go get the bike. :)

Also - yes! Fuel injected bikes are excellent. Mine also has ABS. It's mighty sweet, and makes me a little more brave in the winter, though I'm not a risk taker.

My previous bike was a 1979 KZ 650 Kawasaki. I rebuilt that thing from the ground up. I even machined all new sprockets and other parts I couldn't get "old new stock." It was a great bike, but I spend too much time on the highway for a 650.

I was looking at a Street Glide that had ABS, cruise control, cd player. heated grips, GPS and a 103 inch engine...it was $24,000! A little out of my price range. Sweet bike though...maybe when I'm a little older, right now I still like 'em loud and trashy.

I got mine from a guy who never rode, didn't care, and just wanted it out of his garage. Your price range is right, but I paid $5,000.

I still get horny thinking about the deal I got.

Yeah, you stole that bike. I paid 12...plus my bike, which they gave me about 4,900 for. I got a 2year warranty, a year tire and wheel, and some bolt on chrome that's in the pictures, including the front rim, which was $750 retail, so it cost them about $400. They defiantly didn't give it away, but that's probably because I was a little to in love with it, and let it show.

Fucked up thing is, the day I went back and picked it up, they had just put a 2010 Road King Classic on the floor...sweet ride, it had the long pipes with fishtail tips on it, and the wide white walls...it looked totally gangster. But it was a little pricey for me too.

I love the white walls on the classic style bikes. Wouldn't work on mine, though. This is not my bike, but same model and equipment. Mine is 3 years newer, so mild differences in styling, and mine is the BMW green/blue. I really need to take pics of it.

But imagine white walls on this beast. It would be sillly.

The white walls on that Road King, where wider then your whole tire! I see a lot of those on the road, nice bike, well made, good compromise between sport bike style/performance, and comfortable riding position, and long ride-ability. I see a lot more of their touring bikes too...giving the Gold Wing a run for it's money I suppose. I wonder if I'll ever mellow out enough to own a geezer glide? It's hard to think about riding without drag bars and forward controls.....

Long time former rider, great post I might add! My past bikes:

1988 Honda VF1000
1995 Triumph Sprint 900
2001 Triumph Sprint ST

I do miss riding!

So buy another one....even if you're in a situation where you can't do 2 wheels, get a trike...just get in the wind.

I will in the next few years a Triumph Daytona 675 is on my list or a used Honda CBR600RR.

Have to buy a new car first and then hopefully next year!

Well, I traded the old girl in...broke my heart, but I'm getting too old to lay on a cold garage floor, to wrench on an old shovel head, and I couldn't afford to keep her, and buy the new one. I was sure I would NEVER have another blue bike...just because I had one for so long...but she caught my eye, and it just felt right, so I went for it. I started out working on a deal for a bike similar to mine, only much newer. It was black, with silver flames, and laid out like my old one, (forward controls, drag bars, etc.), but I saw this one...which I named Jezeballe, out of the corner of my eye, and when I sat on her...it was sooooooo good. The first four pics are how she looked when I brought her home, then I changed the pipes, and front rim (the last three pics), and replaced the race tuner...it had a Power Commander, I put in a Screamin Eagle. It has a 96" fuel injected twin cam engine with a heavy breather air intake, and a 6 speed transmission. The old one was 74", and a 4 speed.

pretty nice softail :thumbsup: I am myself thinking to get a 2007 softail
