Imagine if you will......
The Mayan calender began something 4 thousand years ago and is still pretty much accurate to this day.
Pretty amazing how these people can construct an acuurate calender only by looking at the stars.
It does however inexpicably stop at 6 pm on December 21 2012,
After all those years it just ends.
Did they know something we don't?

lol, I don't know what scares me more... the omnipotent predictions of the Mayans, or the way you just projected the twilight zone tune straight into my head...
I think the Big Rip theory is more widely accepted at the moment. I don't think the universe is calculated to last long enough, as we know it, for entropy to bring about its heat death. So basically, if everything goes as calculated everything will be ripped apart as the fabric of the universe expands to the point where even fundamental particles won't be able to hold themselves together in billions of years. I don't know if that will eliminate time like a big crunch would however.
