It's a close call between Megadeth & Metallica for me. I'm leaning towards Megadeth.

1. Slayer
2. Metallica
3. Anthrax
4. Megadeth

Metallica all the way for me. They are easily one of my favorite bands of all-time, and they have a very complete discography (St. Anger is their only true disaster). They also kick major ass live.

what does "the big 4" even mean
It´s a name for the four most popular trash/speed metal bands that the magazine Kerrang came up with in the mid 80´s.

ANTHRAX! East Coast FTW!
After them it's Megadeth, Slayer and Metallica in last. Never "got" Metallica. They have maybe 2-3 albums that are good, I'll give them that. St. Anger is actually one of them IMHO. Don't know why people are so disappointed with it. The early stuff is killin', but the black album and stuff after that... YIKES! They're a good band, but there are sooooo many OTHER good bands out there that don't get as much recognition.
My 2 cents. :)
Anyway, GREAT thread man. Keep em coming.

I enjoyed Slayer, Metallica, too, but not for long... I am more into Hard Rock / Rock or Blues Rock.

Zeppelin, AC/DC, Johnny Winter, and so on

All of them suck.

Wow, you really think so. :o

For me, I guess St. Anger sounds bad because it seems heavy for the sake of being heavy. I probably shouldn't call it a "disaster," because it's better than a lot of the crap out there, but overall I just can't get into it. What did you think was so bad about the Black album and their other '90s material? People always like to say that Metallica were too mainstream at that time, but I never understood how that was a bad thing.

I think I need to check out more of Anthrax's material. I heard their newer song and didn't like it, but I like some of their classics. I'm just not too familiar with them.

I go where the talent lies. And that is with Megadeth.

Anthrax is second and Slayer is third. But The Deth kick ass more than anyother!.

1. Megadeth.
2. Anthrax.
3. Slayer.
