Seems the issue was with more how the troops were pulled out. Maybe Trump would have done the same but maybe not. We will never know because Joe is the driver trying not to confuse the gas and break pedal in 2021.

In 30 days, unlikely. I still approve of his job, but optically it is a rough patch for him.

He is being hurt by two issues gifted to him:
- Afghanistan - he followed through on Trump’s agreement.
- COVID - heavily Republican states are seeing surges of the virus. Republicans are still fighting against COVID measures.

Biden will own parts of these messes very shortly. Keep in mind Trump railed against Obama for his entire 4 years. Biden is only two-thirds of a year through.

The most logical question for me: what would be different with Trump there? We may still be in Afghanistan pouring blood and resources into an unwinnable position. A position no one would care about yet because it would not be on TV. Recall Trump touted his great deal with the Taliban.

On COVID it would not be any better - or any different actually. In fact, it may have been worse.

I think it's clear that Biden handled the situation no better that if the US was under trump. If anything, trump's unpredictable nature may have kept the taliban from being too aggressive while the withdrawal was going on. There is a change they might have been scared into waiting; although the refugee fallout would be no different.
As it stands, I think they felt they could risk walking over biden, and it turns out they were right.

COVID... I don't know. I would have thought it would be clear that it would have been worse under trump. But with his softening stance on vaccines (like in the video), I wonder what would have happened if he relayed that message to his supporters - would they have listened or would they have turned on him? If it were the former, there may have been an improvement in the red states, which would have made a national difference. But that would with a huge caveat that he did a total 180 on his stance on everything to that point- and if his supporters would buy it. Since the vaccine was made on his watch, he could spin it as a huge win if he got the US public to get jabbed. biden's victory only gave more reasons for his supporters to refuse getting vaccinated.

I think another question might be whether the US would be better off had another dem nominee won.

As many issues that I have had with Barack Obama I would make the switch if given the option allowing Biden a more dignified burial. You’d have to be quite a Carny at this point to convince people that Joe is as sharp as a tack while he sounds like he has a mouthful of marbles. Good luck in your future endeavors.

I agree, but I'm not entirely convinced there would be much different really. The states imploding now did not buy into the whole defensive nature of fighting the pandemic. Frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if the more Democratic states had their own coronavirus issues in three months. Like gun violence, it seems like it will be what it well be. Quite fatalistic I know.

Doubt it. The two most pressing issues in the news could not have been handled much better. The Afghan army collapsed after we propped it up for 20 years. Nailing it on Biden (president for 200 odd days) is disingenuous (Bush 7 years, Obama 8, Trump 5, Biden 0.7). Who thought the army would collapse overnight? Their heart was not in it and we did not recognize it.

Biden reversed course on climate change. That is - in my opinion - the true issue of the day.

Watching Joe struggle, stutter, and stumble while reading someone else's thoughts off a machine makes Boris Yeltsin's corpse look more focused and engaged. As many problems that I have had with the guy I would switch Joe for Barack Obama in a second. At least Barry still has life remaining inside of him.

Joe Biden has no lead left in his pencil. Even Vince McMahon cannot prop him up at this point.

He's not going to be able to do much without troops on the ground. Drone strikes can only do so much, as shown by the fact that even with all military branches in Afghanistan, they couldn't get rid of the Taliban in 20 years.

-If he totally leaves, this is basically an empty threat to ISIS-K. Also brings up the international issue of waging war in a country you haven't declared war with, or have a military presence in.

-He could leave a military presence in the country, but that would leave the real possibility of forming an alliance with the Taliban, or at least a co-operation agreement with them. Can you imagine how that would look? Not to mention basically continuing the war which they desperately need to get out of.

I can't see any way he can win this. Totally screwed either way.
I don't envy joe, but that's the job he signed up for.
