Inspired by Friday's thread on the Beatles and Stones I decided to make another music thread :)

The Rolling Stone, most likely the most recognized music magazine in the world, published their list of the " Premium Link Upgrade " about four years ago. I can't say much has changed since so I decided to base my poll on this list.

Cast your vote if you agree/disagree with this list and what bands you think should be in the top.

I would put The Stooges, Ramones, AC/DC, Johnny Cash, Gram Parsons and Neil Young much, much higher on the list. Link Wray and Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds should have been on the list. I would have put Led Zeppelin even lower on the list, in my opinion they´re the most overrated band of all time.

Hieronymus Bosch...

Oh! Wrong poll... :o

Bob Dylan, then - if artistry equals creative genius. If you want to hear smooth voices and harmonious arrangements, you'd better listen to Kelly Clarkson.

I am younger than that now...

I was into the punk rock scene in NYC in the mid to late 70s.Hung out with the ramones, dead boys etc at CBGB's.We didn't think we were hanging with Rock Icons lol.And to compare them to what had come earlier and the influence people like Chuck Berry,Elvis and The beatles had is just not appropriate I think. The punk scene was really a reaction to what people like me who were just looking again for Rock with a beat and a little on the raw garage band side as opposed to over-produced (in our opinion stuff the major record labels were turning out) by so-called super groups.Punk rock was not re-inventing rock it was just trying to get back to some of the roots of it.In my thread on the beatles vs the stones a lot talked how they only liked the beatles and stones later stuff and not just the pure rock they did in the early years. While I enjoy the later stuff also I probably am more into them when they were just a bands doing pure rock and roll as was handed down to us by the pioneers of the 50s.I always thought bands post 60s usually went bad when they got too big and sold out and lost their edge and it was time then to find someone new that the masses were not into yet.It was fun sitting at CBGB's getting loaded with the bands then watching them perform with a buzz on ,or even more than a buzz.:1orglaugh:****::****:

In this poll if I can only pick one I will go with Chuck Berry.

metallica, foo fighters, red hot chili peppers, nirvana just to name a few

What makes them special? When we're talking about "all time", there'd better be J. S. Bach on the list... Without Bach, no Nirvana.

Nirvana was great when they wer around. A lot of bands wouldnt be around if it were not for Nirvana. Just think where would the foo fighters be if Curt Cobaine had not ****** himself, and Queens of the Stone Age would have never been formed

Just immagine what kind of stuff Nirvana would be making now if Curt Cobaine was still alive
