Stupid sports teams nicknames

Houston Texans - a cowboy
Orlando Magic - a rabbit with a top hat
Utah Jazz - a guy wearing a beret, a goatee, and sunglasses
Miami Heat - :flame:
New Orleans Saints - a Catholic priest
;)

The Texans name is a rebirth of the name of the original AFL team from Texas (was located in Dallas, however) that was owned by Lamar Hunt and later moved to Kansas City and became the Chiefs. The name is meant to pay homage to the fact that Texas, unlike the other 49 states, was actually once its own nation (you may have heard of that Alamo thing), hence the reference.

I agree however....from a national or world perspective, "Texans" is pretty lame. They sure looked good last night against the Saints though! Their "battle-red" uniforms are the best looking ones in the NFL as far as I am concerned.

Oh....their mascot is a bull (Toro). The cowboy idea was already taken by some other team whose name I can't recall right now.

The Red Devils (Man Utd)
The Gunners (Arsenal)
The Hammers (West Ham)
Liverpool are a bunch of cunts (Liverpool)

Just a few of the nicknames I dont like, except the last one I like that one it sums up the team well. :D

Ottawa Senators is pretty lame. What next, Presidents?

In Finland we have handball teams called Cocks and Dicken. I always find it hilarious seeing Cocks play against Dicken. :lame:

Hello Sexy girl how your Toes doing?
What´s wrong with those two?

they are not terrible, just a little bit vague, plain, not much spirit put into the names! I think they could have come up with better efforts to name a team IMO.. :hatsoff:

Calgary Flames continued the name that was used when they moved from Atlanta. I am not sure the orgin of the Atlanta Flames however.

When I said "professional",I meant sports that are at least televised.Maybe it's on the same channel that shows professional dodgeball,ESPN 8,a.k.a. "The Ocho".:D

Surprisingly games were actually broadcast on the regional Fox sports network, which is the same TV exposure that the NHL SJ Sharks get.

I guess what makes their names stupid is the logos they use.Had the logos actually had a cool design then I don't think it would be an issue.

Maybe because it's so fucking hot down there.Isn't that reason enough.

How long ago was that?I do remember ESPN 2 showing roller hockey about 10 years,or so,ago.

None the less,it's not one of the 4 major sports and didn't even get as much exposure as the AFL(arena football),so it's almost like it never even existed.

I was about to make a flip comment General Sherman having something to do with the name, when I decided to check it out, that is where it came from. ;-)

Why on earth would anyone want to name their team after a negative event(I'm assuming) In their cities history?Like the MLS team here in Chicago, the Fire. They name the team after the event of the city burning completely down because of a cow kicking over a lantern. That's smart.

boobmanz

I love big booty too!
Joden (Jews) is what Ajax Amsterdam goes by. First started as a swear word by opposite fans Ajax supporters started to use itself. Yes, Ajas was founded by Jews but at this moment no player member of the board or technical staff is Jewish, let alone those silly supporters that mostly come from provincial towns and aren't even capable of distinguishing between Arabs and Jews. Having a background that is partly Jewish and an Ajax fan that offends me very much.

I know that and remember the atlanta flames, I live in detroit 1/6th of the original 6 teams in the league, I am a puckhead! have been ever since I could understand the game of hockey! I am not sure why atlanta chose the flames (maybe the heat? and it maybe in reference to a negative event somebody said) but I think they should have changed it when they moved to calgary..

P.State nittany lions don't know? maybe there is a nittany lion or thats a nickname for an existing lion?

as you prolly already knew, washington bullets were renamed to wizards after there was a dramatic rise in murders in Washington D.C. and the owner of the team, didn't like his team glorifying the violence and negativity plaguing the cities image, therefore changing the bullets to wizards..

I think Thrashers is a cool name, becauseit makes me think of musi,c not the bird.

if you say so? I think it could have been a little more city oriented or region oriented??

vols not sure, maybe its in reference to the soldiers who volunteered to fight in the civil war??? best guess!

redskins I think pays homage to the indians I don't see why people think its a mockery or racist?? I don't understand that?
