Stern to quit Sirius...

I think Stern should of stayed with regular ol' radio. Once he moved to satellite radio he only became gratuitous and just like every other dirty talker on there having a woman orgasm via sybian or whatever they can think of.

On terrestrial radio he had to abide by rules, sure, however that meant it wasn't going to be nothing but profanity and gratuitous vulgar talk.

Then again, who would turn down 500 million dollars? Especially since at the time he was still going strong on free radio, wanted out of the censorship, and everyone thought at least 1/4th f his listeners would follow.

Stern is fun to listen to he just is not worth paying to listen to.

I don't think Howard seriously said that. He was commenting about Ellis saying it.I think Ellis got his fans when Bubba killed his Sirius exclusivity and started doing terrestrial markets in Tampa. Fans were pissed...and they should be.

Personally, I can't stand Bubba...even when he did live Sirius shows Mon-Fri. And I don't get Ellis' appeal at all. That's why I listen to Jay Thomas. I actually look forward to the Friday morning 101 show more than I do Howard's live Mon-Fri shows.

Anyway, I think Stern and Sirius knows that he no longer has the ability to attract new subscribers. Younger folks aren't aware of him/don't listen to the radio and his older fans either jumped on already or they moved on. Trying to convince anybody to pay $60+ plus $13 a month to listen to a 56 year old man do a commercial-filled radio show 4 days a week isn't exactly an easy thing to do. If you think about it, the last live show was Thursday. There will be 17 days until another live show.
Good points.
Jay Thomas is way fun to listen to. He's interesting and opinionated and I like the fact that he was on Cheers. :1orglaugh
I personally don't mind waiting 17 days. I'm used to it. The quality over at Sirius blows away any regular radio plus they have all the tapes from his entire career. That is a huge plus.:2 cents:

So then I guess you haven't heard the news...
Yeah, real bummer for Artie. :(

I don't bitch about Stern taking 17 days off...again. BUT, the fact that those 17 days are filled with some glorified Best Of is shit.

People have been asking for fresh, live content during the breaks for years. But we get none. Instead we get The Geek Show (which I like) every other Saturday in the middle of the afternoon.

Or worse, they fill every gap with Miserable Men which is nothing more than a watered down attempt at a Stern Show clone, run by people that nobody considers funny.

Stern's willing to sabotage his channels and say Fuck You to listeners rather that give fans their money worth when he's not behind the mic. Look at Dante...the guy was good. He got three shows. Then look at Riley...same bullshit every week and half the time he's drunk. Hyapathalucrecia

But yeah, I'm glad to see another Thomas fan! I wish more people gave him a shot.

O Qua Tangin Wan

I think he got back on the junk after finally getting healthy again. I'm not sure though. The only official statement is that Sirius has asked Artie to take some time off for a while.
They haven't spoken of it since. I think he's in rehab. I'd like for that dude to be back 100%. Goddamn he's funny.

what happened to Artie now?

Now he's in rehab and is off the show indefinitely. Which would be a seriously big deal, but this has been a semi-normal thing since Beer League came out.

I wish him the best and he's been fucking great on the show for a while, but this act has gotten really fucking old. It's time he handles his shit outside of the public arena.

Didn't Artie write a book not too long ago and talked about how well he was doing of being sober?

Now he is in rehab...

I think the book was just fuck up stories. This new sober living thing is only a few months old. At one point he read this poem to his 24 year old girlfriend, thanking her for saving his life.

It wasn't a bit. I got douche chills. Have you ever heard or watched something that was so embarrassing that you couldn't stomach it? It was one of those moments.

His last DVD bombed, so that may have fucked with him. I think I should STFU before I say something insensitive.

Insensitive or not. So what? He talks about how sober he is and falls off. What is insensitive about the truth? Especially when it comes to people in showbiz.

Insensitive because I don't know heroine addiction and I don't want to assume that I can relate to it. I've had this conversation with ex-addicts out in the real world and it always ends up turning into having to pretend to be compassionate while listening to a "life is harder when you used" speech.

Apparently, getting shot in the face or watching your dad kill somebody before your eyes is something that you can deal with. Snorting heroine to combat insomnia brought on by too many road gigs is not. So I hold my tongue. I don't want to offend anybody. I know it must be hard to be rich, beloved and successful so I stay away from criticizing the poor, tortured bastards like Artie Lange.

I think Stern can pretty much do what he wants, expect for sending up his own satellite. I personally think he should stick with Sirius.

Mojo Nixon is on there, and he can say whatever he wants, so...

I didn't listen to him that often when he was on free FM. I usually listened to Bob & Tom but would turn to his channel when they had breaks.

Now...I'm all about Opie & Anthony. Best radio show in history...

Yup, O&A rocks. Not to mention they actually give FreeOnes plugs. :)

I remember hearing a FreeOnes plug by some pornstar a couple of years ago but I forget who though. Sorry guy but O&A is lame to my ears. Very lame. To each their own.

Jim Norton's pretty funny in his stand up and on Fox's Red Eye, but I TRIED listening to O&A a few years ago when they were on in the afternoon here. It was horrible.
