Sotomayor nominated to high court — first Hispanic

Congrats to her...it's a shame that so many people focus on this man-made "race" garbage. She's from the USA,so she's American..end of story. That's how it should be for everyone in this country.

Terms like "white" and "hispanic" are so stupid and ambiguous anyway. For example 80% of people in Puerto Rico are of European descent. (PR being a former Spanish colony of course) So how are they not "white" by our standards anyway. Much of Latin America is of European descent too.

Not that I particularly cared so much about these political rantings, but Pat Leahy sure had problems with Miguel Estrada and his race ! Oh boy did he ever !

Who's Miguel Estrada ?

never mind
:helpme:

Miguel Estrada's nomination was held up on the legitimate basis that The Office of the Solicitor General refused to release Estrada's memo writings while employed there. A practice that had been done in past cases.

Theoretically, they release his memo writings and there is nothing standing in Estrada's way for a vote.

Much was made of some letter written to Durbin about Estrada's heritage, political view and future SCOTUS possibilities but again, I would say if Estrada memo writings were released there would have been no excuse for Demos not to give him his day.
