If your going by baseball playing ability Honus Wagner was a better player, and in his day he was considered one of the most decent model citizens among people of that era. (Although with the amount of thugs baseball had back then that might not have been as hard of an accomplishment as today.)
Just pirates making a living folks. Agree with D-Rock and Johan though, the peeps on the vessels would not want to get shot for a boat they care little about and on the other hand, if they could carry guns (or hire security) those pirates would still "try" to do plunge and pluder (lol) except there would be a blood bath.
Miserable/Poor people are always very persistent when it comes to crime, because when it pays it pays BIG.
Instead of a hijack, you'll have a bloodbath, with heavy casualties ont both sides (but mostly among the civilian 'cause, unlike the pirates, they ain't trained for combat).
No need for a facepalm my friend. Has it occurred to you that it might make sense for the ship to actually have a couple of sailors on board who are trained? A decent sized machine gun would be able to hit these punks well before they are in RPG range and nobody would get their hands dirty - unless of course if you are worried about the pirates. I am not.
