The the very real boogey-man is raising taxes. Someone always has to pay for any public program. I don't listen to any propaganda left or right. My experiences concerning "socialist" go back to the former Yugoslavia where medicine was one big clusterfuck.
For example, I went to one hospital in Belgrade and there were three people sharing a bed. Seeing people wait, wait, wait, government incompetence.
So my fears are very real.

So, just to be clear, your objection to Socialised health care is that You Might have to pay for it?

Did you see my question about how much you and/or your employer is paying for health coverage? I will once again guarantee you that the taxes you would pay for health care would be less than that.

Fully socialized medicine will not work in the us. In a country like australia where there are a butt ton of resources and not many people socialized medicine works like a mofo! That just isn't the case in the united states. I personally wouldn't take it if the government offered it to me as my private insurance works great for me. The happy middle of the road is socialized medicine for those that want/need. They can't though get grumpy if I get my hip replacement surgery before them from my doctor that i'm paying with my insurance. I think those without insurance will agree that is a good deal since at least it's something!

In theory, Socialized anything sounds really good, almost like Star Trek, all of us working for the common good, the problem is that all the money we work hard hard making and use towards the common good is usually taken by those we put in charge to make sure things run smoothly!!

So no socialized anything will never work because us as people are a bunch of greedy bastards and if it means postponing someones life saving surgery so we can get a bigger bonus, we will choose the bigger bonus!!

Funny you brought up Star Trek. I honestly think that kind of society would work well. The only problem; you need to get rid of currency and jobs that are horrible.

For instance Star Trek had replicators for people that didn't want to be cooks or flip hamburgers....but you could be like Neelix and still be a cook if you chose to.

America already has a type of socialized health care.

First, illegal aliens can get free health care and that costs America more money than "obese" people ever will.

Second, you can get free help if you are broke or have very little money.

Third, free medicine or medicine at a lower price.
