Should there just be a "Mass shooting in the US" sticky thread?

They fell off the Common Sense wagon while you weren't looking.

"They"? Look at how he tries to distance himself from us. You just made Dom DeLuise piss his pants.

I wish I could order some Chili's right now. I can eat 2 of the sumbitches. I'm so high I don't think I could dial a telephone.

You should get high more often, you bring up a very good point here. We are getting all excited by 19k US gun deaths in 2020 while 400k died of cardiovascular causes.

Your burger provides 1690 calories, 122g of fat, 330g of cholesterol, and 3040mg of sodium. That is about two-thirds of daily recommended calories, 3 times the amount of fat, 110% of cholesterol, and 150% of sodium. Yikes. No wonder why 400k of us died of heart disease. We should actually be more worried about dying from heart disease than random gun violence. [Full disclosure: I have been more worried about heart disease than guns for most of my existence.]

The primary difference is we willfully assume the risk of what we eat while random gun violence is not a choice.

19,000 US gun deaths? Those were homicides? That would be 52 gun homicides per day. That is a lot, I admit. I imagine if we were to prioritize law enforcement and implement gun control those measures would be focused where the greatest concentration of those 19,000 gun homicides occur. What strategy would you use to enter the inner cities of America to end all this gang violence? Consider me a fan if you are successful.

It's the cost of freedom. In addition to the 19,300 mentioned, slightly under 24,000 guns were used for suicide. Let's ignore the random injuries from guns: over 40k.

On the bright side, we have lower rates of violent gun deaths than most Central American countries. As for strategies, let's ask our UK friends. The US rate of violent gun deaths is about 4 per 100,000 while the UK has 4 per 10,000,000.

Bear in mind, 20 times more people die of heart disease.

If it's the cost of freedom then the inner cities of America will look like the Gaza Strip. Race cards will be turned into race billboards. I don't have a better solution so I'm not arguing. 19,300 murders is a lot to account for.

I don't agree it should be the cost, but it is usually the argument against gun control.

Starting with treating owning a gun like driving a car sounds reasonable to me. Stop treating gun ownership like it is a hobby (i.e. gun shows). Yes, I know there is a distinct difference between a Revolutionary Era musket and a modern-day semi-automatic rifle. The rules separating them would need to be sorted out.

It won't stop everyone, but it should put a dent in the number over time.

I view you as a good and moral guy. We may have disagreements but we both want what is good for everyone.

Comparing gun ownership, which is a right, to driving a car, which is a privilege, might be challenged in court a bit.

You and me do not make the laws. Politicians do. They care more about maintaining power or gaining more power. How willing are they to risk their careers for the safety of little old us?

Let’s carry on. You and me are always civil with each other. I enjoy discussing things with you.

Good, for the most part. Moral, up for debate at times.

Gun laws challenged in court: definitely❗ I think of it this way: Well-respected Constitutional scholars are on both sides of the issues - especially the definition of 'well-regulated militia'. There is no easy answer to any of this, but it has to start somewhere.

Your third statement is completely true. Most politicians are not willing to risk their careers for the safety of well-being of their entire constituencies. Too many pander to their bases at the expense of the whole. [That applies to members of both political parties.]

Politicians are happy when we are divided and at each others’ throats. Whatever side of the fence we are on we have to keep in mind that these elected rodents work for us and we can vote them out and recall them. Don’t care about them any more than they care about you.

I have no opinion
Although no one was hurt a park in a small town about 4 miles from me had three guys pull into the parking lot in individual cars and they got out and fired 36 bullets at the people there. Families, couples, singles there to enjoy the day. No one knows why, they got away. By the time the Sherriff's Police got there they were long gone. Now they are looking for vids for Identifications. Gang related? Nobody knows. Bad shots for sure or only meant to scare.
