I don't think they should get rooms just to pray unless there is already an empty room, one should not be built for that purpose.
However i do think that musiims should be allowed to pray, they should be allowed a break at least, then to catch up with their work later.

Some of my friends are Muslim and i know they are on Ramadan but i still offer them food or drink as a joke and they are fine with that, they laugh at it.

Just because they are on Ramadan does not mean they don't do other things.

They also don't pray for very long, so them taking a break to pray is fine with me.

They could pray while everyone else is at lunch or something, it is not a big deal.

If a muslim is praying, just make sure they catch up on thier work later, Ramadan isn't as much of a big deal as you Americans are making it out to be as muslims are still regular people and i believe thier religion should be treated with respect.

It is a lot harder religion than christianity to follow, strict christians hardly have to do anything, Islam is a lot harder to follow and they deserve respect for that.

Why give them any prayer room or time? Since when is it up to any of us what an employer that we don't work for does? Why is the government in the business of forcing employers to "accommodate" their employees' religion? I don't agree with that at all. If an employee asks to take a break and the employer tells them no, then they should either accept it or quit. I don't see the legality in making someone "accommodate" someone's practices, especially when it comes to letting them NOT WORK. Isn't that what an employee is for anyway, to WORK?

Anyway, the bottom line is, no, they shouldn't be given any privileges or "accommodations" the employer is not willing to give. It's the employer's company, he should be able to do what the fuck he wants as far as letting employees pray or whatever bullshit they want to skip out of work for, and if those employees don't like it, then they can find someone who will build a prayer room for them and a foot bath.

I 100% disagree with that. How many of you guys actually know Muslims personally?

It is only 1 month in a year, and Muslims are a minority, so i doubt it will make an impact if they are allowed, say like 20 mins or something.

I'd agree with this, if it doesn't cost the employer a huge amount or there is a room readily available in would do no harm and would probably raise employee morale. Most decent muslims know that if the facilities are not available or it would cause too much disruption they shouldn't ask for special privilages as they are not supposed to do things that cause a lot of disruption, especially in non muslim countries. As Big Man said prayers don't last long and many would be happy to make up the time later on so I have no problem with listening to reasonable demands rather than flat out rejecting anything which will only make muslims feel further isolated and suddenly hate speech from radical imams will begin to sound more appealing. Life is about compromise and give and take so as long as muslims or any other group don't make demands that will adversely affect others then I don't see a problem. Many Jews won't work on a saturday and that's 52 days in a year!

That is pretty much exactly waht i am saying.
Many people just reject what Muslims say, just because they are muslim

I'm for anything that ridicules the modern work ethic.

Even if it has to come from some dumbshit religion.

Here here.. I am so sick of modern day work ethic. A buddy of mine and I had decided we are not going to work a 40 hour work week any more. For a year we have inky worked 32 hours a week. Sure I have a little less money but man do I get to be with my kids. My dad Sadi "you know you could be saving more money if you worked a bit more". I retorted back " Hay dad remember that afternoon you and I spent setting my army men around the dining room and shot them with rubber bands"? His reply was "no". Mine was "exactly"!

No, it's more the American work ethic. When I moved to the NL I was in complete shock that everyone gets 21 days holiday, govt mandated, every year (hell, I think Germany gets 10 more than the NL). Some companies actually give more! Oh, and you could actually call in sick vs having to drag your ass to work because you work in an at will state.

Overtime? I can tell my boss hell no. In the states? I had to work 16 hour days and come in on my time off if needed because...it was an "at will state."

For those that don't know what "at will" employment is...that's when your employer can fire you for any reason as long as it's not discrimatory.

There is no amount of money on earth that can get me to work in the states ever again. I actually like having normal work hours and vacation time!

I wonder if the 'kick em all out' option on the poll includes refugees from wars America started in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the interpreters and other workers who risked their necks to achieve American objectives in those countries

if they want all this time for prayers and what not then I feel that all christian holidays should be respected as well.
look around every store is now open on easter sunday
I think it should be fair across the board ....there should be no special rights ....

Fuck that. If you want to pray to hoola hoop or whatever there fuckin name is....get the fuck out of merica. you know what im sayin ya;ll???

Wouldn't that also mean that every store should close on EID, Diwali and Rosh Hashanah etc :dunno: It was large retailers (generally 'Christian' owned) that pressured the govt to allow Sunday trading and even now it is restricted to 6 hours so this is being done to appease the Christian element and you don't see many non Christians kicking up a fuss.

Re: Should Muslim workers receive special privileges at their places of work?

I was gonna say, no, it disrupts the efficiency of the assembly line with all of their prayer sessions, but since we no longer have assembly lines in this country...

I still say NO! :1orglaugh

What about the muslim persuasion of being intolerant toward gays or the muslim persuasion to not observe basic human rights for women, should we accommodate them in these areas, i.e. refusing to work in the same building as a gay person etc.?

...and what if your dog should get loose and the muslims bleed him in the street like they do in their homeland, should they not be prosecuted?

...or how about honour killings... if a maddened muslim man were to cut his young daughter's throat for non conformity, i.e. dating a non muslim, should he be granted immunity from prosecution?
Why / Why not? Answer that and try to be consistent.

This is not the 1950's
Have you ever seen a Muslim kill his daughter or kill a dog in the middle of the street?

Generally Christian owned? I wouldn't say that. Heck, Bestbuy REFUSES to put up Christmas decorations or even acknowledge Christmas and the CEO is Jewish. He doesn't mind having Menorahs up for some reason....

I've seen a Muslim kill a non-Muslim's son in the middle of the street.
