The Germans Scuttled her, she was crippled by a lucky torpedo strike to her rudder so she was a sitting duck, she was getting the shit pounded out of her but wasn't going down, The Germans didn't want her to fall to the British so she was sunk by her crew.

Whats Tragic too about the Hood was she wayyyy over weight beyond her WWI design specs and that helped contribute to her demise

She was a battlecruiser. The Hood was fast but lightly armored and that minimal armor protection is what killed her.
