Why do people need assault rifles, aren't handguns enough protection???

I have no problem with raising the age to buy these types of weapons, but banning, and restricting.....where will it end? When will those that are hell bent on a total elimination of private gun ownership stop?

1) A large majority of the population supports banning assault rifle. Only a tiny minority wants total elimination of private gun ownership. You saying "I'm against banning assault rifles because who knows when will it end ? It could end up with total elimination of privaye gun ownership" is o different than "I'm against banning open-wheel cars on roads because, who knows, it may be just the beginning. Some here would like to ban all cars"

The fact is, there are many things that could be done to help reduce this type of horror...you will never stop it, but the brutality in france, and Germany proved that.

Actually mass shootings, school killings (whatever the weapon) are extremely rare in Europe. There was one in France in 2012 in a jewish school : 3 kids and a teacher were killed. It made headlines for weeks. In the US a school shooting with only 3 kids and a teacher killede would make headlines for about 3 days. To that day, it's still the deadliest attacks on a school in the country's history. In the US, it would be just one more school shooting on the list

Why is it that gun rights are the first compromise, the first option? Why aren't schools made more secure? Why shouldn't EVERY student have to pass through a metal detector?

Metal detectors aren't the solution. It wouldn't have prevented that massacre : the guy would have come with guns, shoot th guard and entered freely

Why shouldn't there be only one way in, and it be secured, much like an airport? There are certainly ways to secure entrances, but allow them to be safe exits in the event of an emergency, such as fire or weather. So the kids have to get there 2 hours before school....oh well, welcome to the working world.

Why would kids and tennagers all over the country should be punished so that you can keep firing your AR-15 for fun ? Why would your fun be prioritized over their comfort ?
Welcome to the working world you say ? The fact is they are kids, they aren't in that world yet s othey shouldn't have to suffer its consequences.

Why would you compromise on everything but guns ?
Why are you requiring other people to give up parts of their freedom so that you can still buy any gun an,d bear it anywhere just because you think they are fun to shoot with ?

The Virginia Tech shooter killed 32 people with just two handguns - a .22 and a 9mm.

When you have a concentrated group of people who are unarmed and huddling in their classrooms, an assault rifle ban is not going to protect them. They are sitting ducks.

And as so often in the past you seem to have no concept that people deal with grief and trauma in many different ways.

Seems perfectly natural while hiding from A GUNMAN. They sure seem to know a lot about whats happening out there while hiding in a dark classroom.
Everybody but bob should watch this entire video filmed by David "The Camera" Hogg himself during an ACTIVE SHOOTING and think, does this seem natural or does this seem scripted.
If you were hiding in a dark room from for all you know multiple people on a killing spree right outside the door, would you be talking about GUN CONTROL or sitting quietly in your soiled underwear praying that you make it out alive?

I had a gun to my head for about 3 hours or so while tied up in a bathroom in Colombia by some drugged up thieves. Knives at our throats also.
The guy with me who caused the whole situation went into a sort of trance. He couldn't speak. Frozen in fear. I was crying and hyperventilating most of the time.
We were dead men and we knew it. It was very traumatic.

The last thing I thought about doing was whipping out a cell phone and making a video about GUN CONTROL in Colombia (which by the way is 100% illegal)

The OFFICIAL STORY is that someone (a superintendant) got on the intercom system and told everyone to evacuate the building.
that is 3000 students and hundreds of staff running out of the building.
If that is not creating utter chaos I dont know what is.

In a CODE RED the teacher is supposed to lock the door, turn out the lights and everyone is to go to the corner of the room. This way an ACTIVE SHOOTER would only see a locked dark room. Not tell them to run for their lives possibly into gunfire.

Which leads to the question why Dave & Company were hiding in a dark room after the announcement to evacuate the building immediatley.
Maybe they knew something the others didn't.

So Chris saw Cruz with an AR15 while he was "loading it up".
He fled the building and told Coach Feis what he just saw which was a guy in the school loading a rifle and telling him "things are gonna get messy".
So Coach Feis, who reportedly was one of the 17 killed did what any responsible adult hero teacher would do.
He got on a golf cart and drove McKenna approximately 500 away to the baseball field.
Then he dropped him off and went back to see what all this fuss about a guy with a gun in the school was about.
Seems normal to me.
How fast them there golf carts go anyways?
So I guess Cruz waited for Feis to drive McKenna all the way to the ballfield and come back then make it to the 3rd floor before he started shooting because Feis supposedly used is body as a human shield to save some students.
