Server is too busy?

This has been going on for a while. Maybe it is just me but I find the site to be slow a good bit of the time which is why I made the suggestion I did. It seems like there may be more than just hardware problems. :dunno:
PHP/Zend can be a real pig on some things. Then you have DB and other considerations. The base architecture of the typical php-board app can only go so far before you have to come up with a solid, distributed architecture to distribute load while still having everything inter-related.

I think all that is why they recommend keeping threads below a certain reply level. On the other hand I have seen other big boards that have no issues so who knows. This is the only site I go to that I notice this slow down on. I'm sure the type of server you have and even what OS the server runs can make a difference.

Agreed, it's been happening to me alot the last couple days.

It should be getting better as of yesterday. Things should also be running faster.

Sure. That's what Unocal said before they dumped 15 million gallons of crude oil into my bathtub. They killed almost all of the marine life that was living there! Then they laughed at my posts on their website, and threatened to turn over my garbage cans. Unocal is evil. Where is Secretary Of State Christy Canyon when you need her??:dunno:

Irony:

I was about to post in this thread to say that the board has been fine as of late...

....and I got "the message"

Down for over an hour around 7:30 EST this morning. Enough already...why don't you mods go ahead and splurge? Get the Coleco upgrade with the Commodore 64 add-on package?

Is anyone finding recently that the board seems to 'hang', with the status bar showing 'reading board.freeones.com' (something of that ilk). You can't do anything until the message has disappeared and the page fully loaded (which takes a while).

I have noticed the board has seemed sluggish the past several days. It was worse yesterday than today. It took a bit for the board to load when I would come here.

We've installed 10 new 16 core 24 GB servers in our network the last 6 months. Unfortunately the all servers have faulty network cards, this is the major problem we have right now. We're replacing all cards somewhere this week. I hope everything will go faster then.

That's great news. I hope it does the trick. :2 cents::thumbsup:

Noted you are Linux/Apache: http://toolbar.netcraft.com/site_report?url=http://board.freeones.com
What NIC card, driver and version? Just curious.

I/O shouldn't be a bottleneck, although dropped packets/faults definitely will be. Curious what your uplink is as well. Might explain a bit.

Feel free to contact me in PM or e-mail. Would keep this discrete.

More I wont/cant say (as this would result in security issues).
But believe me, uplinks arent the problem ;)
