doing either makes you stupid in my book

one you can stop half way through but you are not paying attention to the road while doing it

and the other you can pay attention to the road but fail to react in time or don't realize how fast you are going

either thing you can kill people doing, so they are both bad

since there are different levels of being drunk, and reaction times are slowed as opposed to just being distracted, I have to go with drinking then driving.

I am an extremely safe driver. I have been in some of the worst driving conditions you can hope to avoid, yet come out without a scratch.

However, once when I decided to text and drive, I nearly wrecked the car. That was it. No more.

Driving home late at night after gigs you want to pull the drunk drivers over and give them what for.

In Oregon the law is changing to include talking on the cellphone. Those days will be over soon. (And here they watch you like a hawk).

I wonder if the experts can tell us who has a higher chance of surviving a collision: a person who is drinking and driving or a person who is texting and driving?

Both are bad, but drinking and driving is worse, because one can always leave the phone and focus on the driving, but one can't instantly become sober.

When someone says "drinking and driving" I say "How drunk?" I mean, 1 beer, I'd say texting is more dangerous. 10 beers, probably equally as dangerous.

If I have even a sip of a beer, someone else gets the keys.

That said, I have been a chronic texter and driver for a while and had to make a conscious effort to stop. I still slip up every now and then but am pretty quick to snap out of it.

I will say though, that when I did text and drive regularly it was like when I was getting some road head...I had a hard time making the speed limit.:D

Drinking & driving just has more of a social stigma these days. But I think texting while driving is actually more dangerous. I mean, it all depends on how drunk the person is or how wrapped in the text he/she is. But anyway, here's a Car & Driver video that seems to prove that.

Given a choice, I would much prefer to be on the road or in a car with someone who was hovering around a .08 BAC, than someone who was trying to carry on some meaningless text conversation while driving.

Not PC, but I agree.

I say both. While drinking may impair your driving ability, taking your eyes off the road to text is just as bad, imo.

Anything that takes your eyes off of the road is the most dangerous thing you can do while driving.

It's been proven that distractions cause more accidents than alcohol which only makes sense since mere amounts of blood alcohol don't necessarily cause a person to not look where they're going or to see objects in plain view.
