Rush... The Greatest Band Ever???

Hello All,

I know this is a "porn board" but I have seen many topics come up. As you can tell by my name and icon that my favorite band is Rush... I even brought in "2112" into show and tell in 5th grade! The other kid brought in Kris-Kross "Jump Jump" which the rest of the class enjoyed a lot more! Let me just say I earned my music teachers respect that day and let's take a look at who is still around making music!

Well, this morning I woke to find two new songs pre-released for their upcoming album. "Clockwork Angels." I started thinking... I am sure there are others out there like me...

So, speak your mind! What are your views? Are you a "Signals" and before kind of fan? Do you enjoy the heavy synth of "Hold Your Fire?" What do you think of the new stuff??? Did you find yourself disappointed by "Vapor Trails" too but feel more confident now with "Snakes and Arrows" and these two new songs?

Favorite albums? Favorite Songs? Favorite Member?

Just throwing it out there... let's get a nice discussion going!

Also, please don't hate on my board! If you don't like Rush that's fine...

That was a great movie... I can appreciate a vehicle that only plays Rush and looks like The Milenium Falcon!

I like them. Not a diehard fan like yourself but then again I don't buy albums or look up the actual bandmembers or anything. I just download specific songs that I like, my favorite song of theirs is probably Subdivisions....heard it once on the radio and I knew I had to get it.

Here's a couple reasons why I think they are the Greatest:

-They are always growing in their music. Each album and series of albums (they seem to have this kick about 4 albums with one theme) show their evolution. Oh, my theory... The 1st 4 are "Let's not be Led Zepplin anymore and actually apply our music knowledge and make our own stuff" 5-8 "Hey, let's combine some new tech with our music and see what kind of sounds and balance we can make?" 9-12 "Let's see how far we can get this keyboard to go?" 13-16 "Let's make some music with more lyrical substance that is also relevant to the World... we have fans... let's try to send a message out there?" 17-??? "Let's go back to our roots and find a nice blending of all the prior styles!" Matured like a fine wine my friends!!!

-With Rush there is no Drama... no drugs... no fights... Just Music!
-A live act that would convert an non-believer!
-They make their own music... never folded to radio pressure!
-3rd most consecutive Gold Albums
-One of the most influential bands. I firmly believe that many newer bands would not exist without them being inspired by Rush

That's just off the top of my head!

They're very good but not the best, I think that achievement goes to Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, IMO.

They're good, but I'm not a fan of their stuff by any means. Would I buy their greatest hits? Yes. Their obscure stuff? Likely never.
