The secret ingredient? MY BALLS
There is a little sub sandwich shop that is around the corner from my apartment and I go there to eat about once a week. They recently hired a new "night" employee and he is one of the worst employees I have ever seen, ever.

The first time I encountered him, the store was empty and as I walked in he said "FUCK, MOTHER FUCKER!!! How many fucking people are going to come in tonight? Sorry bro, what can I get you?"

The second time I encountered him, the same thing pretty much happened. It was 2:30AM and there were only 3 total people in the sub shop but this guy was getting all pissed and vocal about it because he thought he had a lot of work to do.

My question is this...

If a restaurant (sit-down, fast food, etc) you enjoy eating at has occassional bad service, do you stop going?

Personally, I deal with it, but only to a certain point. This sub shop, for example, is conveniently located, the subs are pretty good and you get a lot of food for a small price. It's hard to not eat there, even with a complete jackass working behind the counter. I'll probably stop going only if this idiot keeps up his rude behavior and/or it gets worse.

I would have smacked him just for calling me "Bro". :)

A local Italian place gave me a good lunch with a good waiter and I really enjoyed it. I went back for dinner one time and the Maitre d' introduced herself and took off. It was busy. We waited a long time for service and finally ordered. The meal was brought out after a wait, and we realized there was no silverware on the table. I told the Maitre d' and she said, I'll be right back, and we waited and waited. I turned around and she was talking to someone at another table. That really annoyed me, she never got our silverware. A waitress from another table stopped, looked back and said, "you don't have anything to eat with". She ducked into the kitchen, and came out in about a minute with everything we needed to eat.

Never went back.

i usually get some bad service, but its mostly because the people cant speak english. i cant recall any times where the help would cuss at me or bitch about the work load.

a lot of times when someone receives bad service or the employee is terse and seems annoyed, its usually because they just got screwed on a tip (in the case of sit down restaurants) or they just had to deal with a customer who was a complete jerk.

I would gladly pay extra for good service and the tip is always better with good service. I once got so pissed off I yelled at the waitress " you are the fuckin' worst server I ever had" I didn't even feel bad cuz she sucked.

I stopped to talk to someone in a small place one time and didn't realize she was heading for the back door until the waitress told me about it. She was a nice waitress too.

Someone took a group of about 15 of us to Red Lobster, which is hands down my most hated place to eat.

They squeezed us into a bad table in a tight corner and then proceeded to have those closest in the group pass plates endlessly to those harder to reach. Several requests to clear some dishes off the table went ignored several different times as we continuously tried to stack things out of the way. A few requests for drink refills also went ignored. The tip was included in the bill with that many people.

The person paying gave the waitress $300 to cover the bill and asked only for like $15 change, (on top of the fact we were surcharged 15% on the bill for a tip anyway). The waitress never came back, so the payer finally said lets just go.

For some incredible marketing reason, Red Lobster seems to be packed every single night.

It's the place that matters. As far as rude service.. well let's start a little back and forth with the pros and cons of retail, foodservice and American ideals.

The image: The customer is always right. You're getting a good deal and excellent service. (So the commercial goes.)

The server says: The customer (hereafter cx) is getting screwed so many ways it's not even funny. The cx is paying too much at HALF the advertised price. If you complain to me, I'll go get my manager and he'll comp a free meal to you just to shut you up, you fat American slob! (Hey, servers cuss like sailors when they're not around their tables. F!CKING CHEAP BASTARDS I'M GONNA PISS ON THEIR ALFREDO!@! ARGH! :p)

The manager says: Have a free gift card. Now I have to rebalance the schedule to save an extra 100$ so my bottom line stays in the black! The circle of unhappiness continues, unbroken because you dont know what the f!cking f!ck "Medium Rare" means and ordered a blush wine 'cuz your pussy taste buds cant handle even a table red! DAMN! (It's the manager talking, not me!)

The Image: We're open from 10A to 8P! Come in anytime!

The cashier says: Oh for f!ck's sake. Anyone who has ever worked in Retail or foodservice knows. Anyone who hasnt is a whiny bitch and doesnt know common frickin' sense: If you come in ten, twenty, TWO minutes before closing, you will not have anything remotely close to *Customer Service*. Just turn around and walk back out. Resist the urge... as you're walking by the store/restaurant.. to walk in at 5 til closing and say HEY! I've never been here before. Tell me what you're all about. Tell me what I can get on my sandwich/plate/dick(ORDER THE SAW, YA TARD!) and then I wanna call my wife RIGHT as I get to the register so I can hold up your night even longer! MAN I LOVE CELLPHONES! It's like pure, undiluted disrespect RIGHT THAR! (Now that's closer to what I might say.)

The rub: We're on this side of the counter. You're on the other. Do I come to your office cubicle and ask you to fill out an extra TPS report 5 minutes after your shift shouldve ended? If we complain, we complain at our situation. Never directly to you, the cx. Have a heart. We've been making/cashiering/standing-around for whiny cx's about 10 hours straight. Ever heard of a 'working break'? That means we hurry thru a break because our help is constantly needed. Seat yourselves. Ring yourself up. The customer is never right and shouldnt ask anything of their compatriot behind the counter except this: The thinnest of facades. A weak smile. Meaningless chitchat in the 20 seconds before I tell you how much money you just saved using your demographics card. Be a good sport, mmkay? (The younger the person on the other side of the counter.. the more whiny they get. Case in point: Never ever go to a place that hires 13 year olds with work permits like DAIRY QUEEN! GUH!)

As for Affuh's story.. yeah, you cant be forgetful in foodservice. The waiter-dee shouldve ducked into the kitchen immediately after being asked. Or shouldve noticed the table wasnt completely set up. Rule number one at italian joints: If they arent using silverware, wine glasses or menu's at a table.. take 'em, save 'em for another table. G_d knows the dishwasher at a busy restaurant is packed to the brim from open to close.

Rude servers are annoying, but to be honest they are usually doing a lot of hard work for shit pay.

The thing that pisses me off more than them, are the customers who are rude to the servers for no reason. You know the ones that get all stressy and think they are the boss of the place?

The customer is always right? Bullshit. Not all the time.

I'll tolerate a rude server once maybe twice if the food is good, after that screw em.
I mostly look at tell tale signs of sanitation conditions when I eat somewhere.
I'll tell you all, be careful, I've been in a few Kitchens and meat Dept's in my time and I've seen some bad things.

Hah. All the kitchens I've been in are never up-to-code half the time. So long as I dont get food poisoning to the point where I spew.. I'm fine with pretty much anything.

The image: The customer is always right.

I hate that phrase. I absolutely HATE it, especially in regards to restaurants.

In restaurants, the customer is actually dead fucking wrong about 90% of the time. They don't even know what food they're actually going to be getting when they place an order, but yet, they have the nerve to act like they're food critics after they get a plate in front of them.

This one guy the other day ordered our pork dish, medium-rare. I sent it out to him, perfect medium-rare, beautiful plating. He cut into it and sent it back, claiming that it was raw (which it soooo wasn't). So, I brought it up a temp, to medium, just to make him happy. The waitress took his pork back out to him. He cut into his pork and claimed that it was even MORE raw than the first one.

First of all, it was the same piece of pork which was thrown into a 500 degree oven for 5 minutes extra, so it is scientifically IMPOSSIBLE for it to become MORE RAW. Secondly, after he sent the pork back for the second time, he re-ordered and asked for diver scallops...which are eaten almost RAW. AAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH, I HATE PEOPLE, I HATE THEM SO MUCH!!!

well, im right 100% of the time. not because im the all knowing of everything, but i bitch when bitching is needed. the cook puts a tomato on my burger when i specifically say no tomatoes, i bitch and wont pay. when my steak is not medium well, i will take it back with a little saying to whoever is there.

and chef, a question if you please. why the need to make the food look pretty?

The best service I ever had was on some cruise lines. Really excellent. When they figured out you wanted orange juice for dinner, they had 2 big glasses on the table each night. They knew what the ingredients were in the menu items and would make recommendations. If you hesitated over 2 choices, you would get both, (of course this wouldn't be allowed in a regular restaurant).

Chef? Do you like Gordon Ramsay and his Brit shows and Hell's Kitchen?

There is one place here I haven´t been to in about 6-7 years because the owner was rude once.
But it wasn´t just that.
The place went downhill after he took over.
It was once the best place in town.
I followed the old owners to their new place for a while, but it is located too far away, so I have stopped going there too.

I go to a few local places. One Chinese place I kind of know them. Some years ago, I used to eat lunch in the same Chinese one everyday and really got to know the family well.

knows petras secret: she farted.
it depends for me. i cant make a general decision. i expect people to be rude and irritated, usually im the one they call "easy." i dont ask for refills, etc. i also rarely go out though.

I very rarely go out. In fact, in my recollection, I have never had a rude server, that's how rarely I go out. If I had a rude server, though, I would speak to the manager or owner about it after the meal and depending on what he says, I may or may not come back to the place again.:dunno:

I'm pretty friendly. I talk to everybody. I also don't often find people to be rude, but when I do as in the case of a restaurant, I probably will never go back. I might just complain if I can corner the manager.
