Right-Wing Says You'll Die If Health Care Passes

Three lullabies in an ancient tongue
Then there's this little ditty from the ever-present voice and conscience of the republican party, Sarah Palin, proving once again that the propaganda philosophy of Joseph Goebbels (if you tell a lie that's big enough, many people will believe it) is indeed alive and well:

Palin says Obama's health care plan is 'evil'

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin called President Barack Obama's health plan "downright evil" Friday in her first online comments since leaving office, saying in a Facebook posting that he would create a "death panel" that would deny care to the neediest Americans.

"The America I know and love is not one in which my parents or my baby with Down Syndrome will have to stand in front of Obama's 'death panel' so his bureaucrats can decide, based on a subjective judgment of their 'level of productivity in society,' whether they are worthy of health care," the former Republican vice presidential candidate wrote.

"Such a system is downright evil," Palin wrote on her page, which has nearly 700,000 supporters. She encouraged her supporters to be engaged in the debate.

The claim that the Democratic health care bills would encourage euthanasia has been circulating on the Internet for weeks and has been echoed by some Republican leaders. Democrats from Obama on down have dismissed it as a distortion. The nonpartisan group FactCheck.org, a project of the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania says the claim is false.

The allegation appears to be based on a provision of the House bill that would require Medicare to pay for end-of-life counseling sessions, on a voluntary basis, for beneficiaries who want the service. Medicare already covers hospice care. And legislation passed by Congress in 1990 requires that patients be asked if they have a living will.

Obama addressed the controversy during a July 28 AARP-sponsored town hall.

"Nobody is going to be forcing you to make a set of decisions on end-of-life care based on some bureaucratic law in Washington," he said.

An e-mail sent to Palin's spokeswoman to confirm authorship of the Facebook posting was not immediately returned Friday. There was no immediate reply to phone messages left late Friday with the White House and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office seeking comment on Palin's remarks.

Republican criticism has also included claims that the reform plans will lead to rationing, or the government determining which medical procedures a patient can have.

However, millions of Americans already face rationing, as insurance companies rule on procedures they will cover. Denying coverage for certain procedures might increase under proposals to have a government-appointed agency identify medicines and procedures best suited for various conditions.

Palin resigned as Alaska governor on July 26 with nearly 18 months left in her term. She cited not only the numerous ethics complaints that had been filed against her also her wish not to be a lame duck after the first-term governor decided not to seek re-election next year.

Palin, popular with conservatives in the Republican party, has said she wants to build a right-of-center coalition, and there is speculation she will seek the presidency in 2012. In the two weeks since she resigned, Palin has made only one public appearance, giving a Second Amendment rights speech last Saturday before a gun owners group in Anchorage.

Palin or her aides post notes on her Facebook account about once or twice a week, usually to set out policy statements, issue news releases or refute rumors circulating on the Internet.

Palin also has been largely silent before Friday's Facebook post. She was a voracious user of the social networking site Twitter, and promised to keep her supporters updated with a new private account after she left office. But that hasn't happened, leaving some of her fans begging for updates in the past two weeks.

Storm the Bastille and then off with her head, among others!!!!

I'm really tired of Republicans fear mongering and what upsets me the most is they are feeding of the elderly who are the easiest to scare and misinformed. They are tapping into the fear of old white people from having a black president and they are pretty good at it.

“Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.” - Master Yoda and Republican's model

No fear mongering and I am no Republican.

I just dont TRUST the govt because they have given me ZERO reason to do so. They cant run any other branch of govt efficiently and withing budget why should I think they can manage the health insurance in this country.

So your distrust of the government should over shadows the MILLIONS of American that are uninsured and going bankrupt cause they cant afford to pay for treatment. Its a PUBLIC OPTION if you prefer your Private Insurance keep it and let the other suffer with they're government runned healthcare.

Compassion Conservatives my ass.

You never answered my question, why should I trust the govt to run health care since the cannot run anything else efficiently? Even Obama said this yesterday. He compared Health care to the post office that is always losing money.

This argument about millions of uninsured is a fallacy. The millions you speak of are either young people who choose not to have insurance, illegal aliens that somehow get included in the count, or people that are transitioning from job to job.

There are very very few people in this country that cannot get insurance and for these people I do think there needs to be help. BUT ITS MUST NOT COME FROM THE GOVERNMENT. These people must be able to afford it on there own and It needs to be done from the free market. The over all cost of insurance to too high. I have said it over and over in this thread. Things like tort reform need to happen before we get the govt more involved in health care. Once it happens it will be the beginning of the end and slowly over time a single payer(govt run) system is all we will be left with. This is the end of your individuality and all of our sovereignty.

So yes Compassionate Conservative your ass. :thefinger

Considering ...

Considering that the Republican Party caters to middle to upper-middle class that typically pays extra for PPOs with the right to choose their providers, second opinions and services out-of-network with additional co-pays, of course, they're going to say that.

Because most socialize medicine programs reduce coverage below what a PPO offers. Cost isn't an issue here. Some of us have paid $10K/year in premiums alone, just for 2 people, to ensure the best coverage. We do so by not buying an expensive car, but running a "beat up one" that cost only $10K for 10+ years. Same deal on living in a small apartment or house.

So the statement here is not to those who don't have insurance. It's to those not merely with insurance, but those who pay significant premiums -- sometimes out-of-pocket/post-tax (especially self-employed/small business) -- that have PPOs and don't mind paying for them. Don't demonize them by changing the audience away from its intended.

47 million uninsured, I don't give anyone permission to use me as a political tool to advance their big brother agenda, so for now on you all in the pro-big brother health "reform" side have to say 46,999,999 uninsured, I don't give you permission to use me :thefinger

Now, remember the poorest of the poor, are they uninsured? They qualify for Medicaid!! So, in a sense, some high school drop out who makes less than $12,000 has better coverage than, oh, let's say, a college drop out who makes, well, at least four times that much who happens to CHOOSE to be uninsured and pay doctor visits cash (not that expensive, if you can afford a PS3 or Xbox 360 game, you can afford a check up). The very rich? They laugh at the notion of having to buy insurance, hell, if George Soros gets sick, he can pay out of his own pocket, just have to hold off a contribution to the democ-rat party.

The problem is the working poor who could afford to buy their own if it wasn't so expensive, so some help for them to do so would do a lot more to end the problem of having people without healh insurance than to completely allow government (the same government that runs the IRS, the same government that runs the post offices that loose money in comparison to Fed-Ex or UPS, the same government that dropped the ball on the Katrina/New Oreans thing).

And by the way, those of you who cry "my privacy is invaded" because of the Patriot Act, how about the government, as your insurer, now having access to your medical records? Now, a scary thought for all libs around here.... you can't keep the Republicans out of the White House forever, in fact after the much beloved Bill Clinton we had George W. Bush, how would you like them to have access to your medical records?

And the help to the working poor to get their own insurance DOES NOT even have to come from the government, it can come from caring, compasionate people like those rich actors from Hollywood, from the George Soroses, heck, I'll throw in a couple hundred bucks a year to any charity that would help the working poor get insurance. (if there is such a charity around, why don't you all just send your money in if you don't mind paying "a little more" just to do some good, remember that the government's idea of a "little more" may be very different from yours)

One more thing, I keep bringing this up, but what about the fucking stimulus money? Why the hell not use at least 10% of it to ensure those who do are not poor enough to qualify for Medicaid or are too poor to buy it all by themselves? I mean, out of that trillion bucks, what's the percentage that's been used so far? Not much from what I've seen.

Exactly right. Most people in America don't know this, but there is already a system set up for the poor, if they so choose to use it.

time to repost this pic, I think.

Honestly, your suggestion just sounds really hinky to me. :dunno:
Both options, you're just taking money from somewheres to give to Average Joe so he can go buy insurance, ergo putting an unnessecary obstacle/step into the equation.
Both options ''only real purpose'' seems to be to keep the Insurance guys in business, lol.

Exactly right. Most people in America don't know this, but there is already a system set up for the poor, if they so choose to use it.

It's a sad admission for most Americans I'm sure. So many ill-informed (or uniformed) people out there.

I saw on TV somewhere (don't ask me to prove it) where some elderly Americans were protesting the proposed health-care bill and, when the reporter asked them why they didn't support public health care, they said that they didn't want to see socialized medicine in the USA. The reporter then asked them how they were presently covered under health insurance, a query to which they promptly replied (paraphrasing) "Oh, we've got Medicare".

Medicaid takes care of the indigent and destitute. Medicare takes care of the elderly. Problem is, nobody takes care of so many of the rest of us. There absolutely must be a solution to this problem one way or the other. The plain fact is, the present system does not work and we must seek an alternative.

May we choose wisely.

Republicans have been colossal failures on every issue and have no credibility to voice an opinion anymore.

The Democrats should not be hosting town halls anymore. They're a waste of time and money. How many town halls did Republicans host when they were in control and a divisive issue came up--like the wars, like energy policy, like (FILL IN THE BLANK WITH ANY ISSUE).

The Republicans make their decisions behind closed doors. They do this because they know that their beliefs and decisions will harm more people and help only a privileged few. Democrats' decisions help people and harm only the uber rich who, in reality, are immune from any kind of real harm other than higher taxes. The uber rich have never "gone poor" by paying taxes. They simply make more money.

Healthcare is a mess whether you have coverage or you don't. Healthcare premiums have skyrocketed in the past 15 years and will continue to do so. More people will continue to opt out of healthcare because they can't afford it and the U.S. system will completely crumble--if we continue to listen to Republicans.

A gov't health insurance plan will be an immense success because MOST services the Gov't provides--like the Post Office--actually WORK. There is not a single person in the U.S. who will vote against Medicare. ALl these 65+ people showing up at town halls are misinformed on everything (usually) but none of them want to do away with Medicare because IT WORKS!

Universal healthcare for all--by way of a Gov't healthplan entering the marketplace is a good step, but it's not the best step. The best step is a single payer system for all citizens--we already have it setup for Children, Seniors and the Military. Now, we just need to open up Medicare for ALL Citizens.

I don't know what it's like to be middle class, but from what I hear, they are getting nailed all day every day. This is not fair, I agree. American citizens going into to debt because they are hit by a car is not acceptable to me.

As a college student receiving MN Care, I can assure my premiums have not risen,

The Post office works?

The post office loses money where the UPS and FEDEX make money. The post office is the worst example of a "good" run govt agency.

Medicare doesnt work, its fuggin broke as in doesnt have any money and cost taxpayers BILLIONS upon BILLIONS...

Like someone said earlier in this thread, all you liberals that were against the Patriot act and warrentless wire taps( I was against this also) have no problem with the feds having 100% access to your private medical records and chosing what proceedure you get and don't get.

Why the faith in govt now all of a sudden???

And everyone please stop making this republican vs democrat. Its not, its about your right to freely choose a Dr and keep your info with him out of govt hands. Its also about care not being rationed. And anyone who has read this bill there is all kinds of talk about care being rationed. Even Obama himself has talked about just giving pain pills instead of giving hip replacements to old people. This is called rationing care.
