I was just listening to the "Slash - Slash" cd for the first time and realized what a wank that guy really is!
If you (or I) really want to hear a rocking disc from a heavy rockin' guitarist with a long list of guest vocalists go back to Iommi's self titled cd.

No offense to any of the millions of Slash fans out there but if you listen to the 2 albums beginning to end, you'll realize Slash is mediocre at best.

Slash is popular due to his look and charisma on stage. Despite the simplicity of his apperance, he plays guitar, was part of one of the biggest bands in the '80s, and made profit. Just like most musicians.

Oh, I like 1980s Guns and Roses. As well as early Aerosmith.
Yeah, Joe Perry, who really gives a shit about him? He takes photos, looks distinguishable, and is likable. It all comes down to imagery.
Who gives a shit if he can play guitar better than anyone else. Just like an actor. Vin Diesel, he's not the best actor, but he makes these movies and people go to watch because he has a stage presence about him.
Of course it all comes down to personal opinion. I know exactly what you're saying, mon ami.
In the end, you have to have stage presence, connect with audience, and be bigger than life, or come off as bigger than life, and you will make it. No matter how good or horrible you are.
And then occasionally you get all of that in one package.
