About 14 years or so ago I went to see Blind Melon at Carleton University in Ottawa, Ontario. My first Blind Melon show but not my last. Saw them again in Vancouver about 3 weeks before Shannon Hoon died but that's a different story.
Opening band was The Tea Party. The big Canadian band at the time was The Tragically Hip.
Anyhow, The Tea Party were playing and the singer looked and really sounded like Jim Morisson of The Doors.
So some guy just SCREAMS " PLAY SOME FUCKING DOORS!!!!"
Jim Martin, their singer, tried to shrug it off and said "Jim's dead."
IMO The Tea Party always did sound like the Doors mixed with Led Zeppelin and I'm first to admit I slagged them for it. When I think back on it now, I think it was a perfect mix after all. I mean come on, a band that sounds cool like Led Zep with a singer with a Doors feel, what's to bitch about?
I was wrong and to be honest I wish they stayed true to that because they were fucking great live.
Check out their frist major cd,
Splendor Solis.
You'll thank me because it's worth it if you know music.
Thanks,
MM
