I tried to search for the answer to this online, but I couldn't find anything helpful.

Smoking marijuana is illegal. Michael Phelps smoked marijuana. Michael Phelps was photographed smoking marijuana. Why is Michael Phelps in no legal trouble for this?

At first, I thought it might be due to the fact that the courts can't prove that it was, for sure, marijuana that he was smoking from that bong. But, Michael Phelps admitted that he was smoking marijuana.

So, if there is proof and an admission from him, why isn't Michael Phelps in legal trouble for smoking marijuana? (There are other cases of this as well, especially with celebrities)

if michael phelps can do it and win dozens of medals... cant everyone else do it and lead fairly normal lives.

(just imagining the scene from reefer madness lol)

I guess I have to take back my earlier question...

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Olympic superstar Michael Phelps could face criminal charges as part of the fallout from a photo that surfaced showing the swimmer smoking from a marijuana pipe at a University of South Carolina house party.

A spokesman for Richland County Sheriff Leon Lott, who is known for his tough stance on drugs, said Tuesday the department was investigating.

"Our narcotics division is reviewing the information that we have, and they're investigating what charges, if any, will be filed," said Lt. Chris Cowan, a spokesman for agency.

Conspiracy...
It should be legal. I don't see the problem. :dunno:

I don't see Phelps as a "hero."

You maynot be right or wrong! if they (the police, District Attorney's office) don't have any proof! how can they prove beyond a shadow of a doubt it was definitely marijuana? people smoke tobacco out of pipes as well! just saying thats reasonable doubt! am I wrong? :D

Well, he did admit to it. I'm sure that has some sort validity as proof. But, eh...I don't know.

Ive always noticed that a lot of pot smokers I know personally do not smoke cigarettes. They get offended even if i bring the word up and look at me in disgust.

:dunno:

I don't have a problem with what he does. But the guy should have thought ahead: he's a celebrity, an athlete. As sad as it is and considering his status, he should have realized that everyone around him at that party was waiting for a chance to catch him doing something scandalous. If he had to toke it up, he should have done it in the privacy of his own home.

I have no doubt he's a talented guy, but he's got to know, that even at his age, every one of his actions will be judged. He's got every right to be arrogant. But his fame could go away as soon as it came. Does he want to be remembered for his troubles in life or his accomplishments?

I was just thinking the same. With his status he cannot act like the other college students.
Next time make sure there is no cameras around.

^^^ Me too. ^^^

I don't give a shit what Michael Phelps does in the privacy of his own home, but he should of known better than to toke it up a some college party with complete strangers. I guess his endorsements are "up in smoke?" :dunno:

lolz what a fag. never liked him this just helps secure my perspective. I think he had the same apology when he got the underage DUI a couple years ago. BTW he has a really stupid underbite.

In related news of lawenforcementdouchery seems like Johnny Law is "investigating the incident" and pondering possible charges. Save the SC taxpayers money there Sheriff. It's a fucking picture of a guy with a glass tube, nothing more. It proves absolutely NOTHING and your desperate attempt for that long awaited publicity and a shot at running for congress will fall flat on its face the minute it goes to a preliminary hearing.

Pick the low hanging fruit, douche bag, and go bust some drunk drivers.

And yes, I love smoking weed but I've since quit because my priorities of maintaining high level employability have forced me to. But the minute I get the chance....

Oh, benDutta, it might have something to do with SIXTEEN gold medals :dunno:

Ummm ...

I dont know why people glorify him. Hes a fast swimmer, I get it
I assume you are joking here? He's probably one of the greatest aquatic contenders in the history of the Olympic games, if not the greatest thus far. Don't diminish his athletic accomplishments.

but swimming is not hard.
Nor is running, hurdling, wrestling, etc... at their foundations. But to be the best in the world, and win over a half-a-dozen competitions in a matter of days and set a record for gold medals, you've gotta be someone who has spent a shitload of their life training to be one of the greatest, aquatic athletes ... ever. To do what he did is beyond "hard," it's virtually impossible.

well, i remember being disapointed when i found out my sports idols did drugs/smoked cigs when i was a wee lad, but i mean, who is to say the previous record holders were perfect- there were no camera phones and douches who would send pics to cis in those days, that's for sure!
