PSN down

Ii have a lot of friends on PSN,and we vid chat quite a bit. Also, even though I could go through my PC,I use VUDU on my PS3 as well.

Gotta be honest,I still don't quite understand people's fascination with downloading and playing old PS1 games like they never played them before. To each their own,but with so many new games either already out,or soon to come out,I personally don't find any enjoyment out of playing old games that I've already played and finished.

I guess I can understand if you haven't beat a certain game,or haven't played it at all though.

i have beaten it,got rid of it (trade in),years later rented it again and beat it again. it was just something that hasnt crossed my mind in a while.
my cousin brought it up and i wanted to play it again. remembering my youth i guess??? :dunno:

BTW do you need access to have games update? i had an update for MLB 11 and it got to 4% before just coming to a dead fucking halt.i disconnected my cable from the PS3 so i wouldnt have to deal with updates until the PSN is up,if that even has anything to do with each other.

This is fucking with my Mortal Kombat...and ShErM is not happy!:nono:
They need to fix this shit now!:crash:

Absolutely.

All the updates/patches go straight through PSN,and that's why it's so important, especially since none of these game developers can put out a game that doesn't require a patch these days.

Kinda fucked up too, because there were a few games that just got released that have online MP that people aren't able to use right now,and that piece of shit Homefront just got the patch that all of the PS3 gamers were looking for.

To be honest, playing on my PS3 without being online just doesn't feel right.I've been catching up on a couple of single player games that don't require me to be online, but now it just feels so 8 years ago.

The PSN is going to have its troubles from time to time, especially with hackers who are attacking the network. They may not have communicated well with the users about the whole sitituation, but I still dont mind. Its free for me because I choose not to pay for any add ons. Other people have said XBox live is so much better, but for free if this is the only time the PSN is down Ill take it. Im not sure about anyone else, but for me this is the first time Ive ever had problems with the network and Ive had a ps3 since it came out a few years ago.

Legzman

what the fuck you lookin at?
Last night Sony confessed that an "external intrusion" caused [it] to take-down the PlayStation Network and ... Qriocity. ... However, they're not saying anything more, or giving a time scale as to when gamers will be able to resume playing online.

FUCK

So it's easier to hack into PSN because it's free?

It has little to do with being free, and more to do with Sony's laissez-faire attitude towards nearly anything online. They were aware of this issue almost a full day before they did anything, and the approach they've taken is nothing short of outrageous. Releasing next to no information, refusing to set a firm timetable, or even give customers the common courtesy to say that their personal information is safe. They really shit the bed on this one. All they had to do was be a bit more hands on and this probably would have been avoided.

Now, for the pure speculation part of the program. I'm hearing this whole thing comes down to Sony being fooled by hackers. There was a release of a custom firmware about two weeks ago, and a couple of friends of mine who run a shop in the Bay Area modding consoles were saying that someone figured out that via proxy, people could forge credit card numbers on this firmware. The result is those guys get stuff for free, as well as the ability to get into the data servers themselves. Sony won't come out and say it, but they're rebuilding the PSN from the ground up right now. While I'm not normally one for speculation like that, there certainly seems to be some validity to the story.

so this is going to be a while until they are back up?
i give the "people" credit who could forge CC #'s if you can beat the system why not take full advantage?!

PSN is free. XBOX LIVE is not. PSN is going to fuck up now and again.

I've already heard people say this is all part of a diabolical plan by Sony to start charging everybody for the PS network, not just the Plus members.

They'll use this as an example of why a small monthly fee will be worth the money, to help them make everything safer and combat the hackers.

Thats fine. Give those of us who've been on PSN a free pass for life and charge all new PSN accounts.

PlasmaTwa2

The Second-Hottest Man in my Mother's Basement
Thank god the credit card that was registered has long been cancelled...

Considering they basically outright said they're rebuilding it from the ground up, I'm giving this one at least another week until they get ANYTHING up. Personally, I think they're going to bring it back up in parts, which could be anywhere from a week and a half to a month.

As for the forging, turns out they did Sony one better: they fooled them into thinking they were dev consoles. How a hole this big wasn't found earlier is astounding, and I've got to tip my hat to the people that pulled this off, accomplishment wise.

i have never used my credit card on any of those. PSN or XboxLive
i always used the gift card or points card (whatever it may be called)

Anybody get this email?

Valued PlayStation Network/Qriocity Customer:

We have discovered that between April 17 and April 19, 2011,
certain PlayStation Network and Qriocity service user account
information was compromised in connection with an illegal and
unauthorized intrusion into our network. In response to this
intrusion, we have:

1) Temporarily turned off PlayStation Network and Qriocity services;

2) Engaged an outside, recognized security firm to conduct a
full and complete investigation into what happened; and

3) Quickly taken steps to enhance security and strengthen our
network infrastructure by rebuilding our system to provide you
with greater protection of your personal information.

We greatly appreciate your patience, understanding and goodwill
as we do whatever it takes to resolve these issues as quickly
and efficiently as practicable.

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident,
we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following
information that you provided: name, address (city, state/province,
zip or postal code), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation
Network/Qriocity password, login, password security answers, and handle/PSN
online ID. It is also possible that your profile data may have been obtained,
including purchase history and billing address (city, state/province, zip
or postal code). If you have authorized a sub-account for your dependent,
the same data with respect to your dependent may have been obtained.
While there is no evidence that credit card data was taken at this time,
we cannot rule out the possibility. If you have provided your credit card
data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution
we are advising that your credit card number (excluding security code) and
expiration date may also have been obtained.

For your security, we encourage you to be especially aware of email,
telephone, and postal mail scams that ask for personal or sensitive
information. Sony will not contact you in any way, including by email,
asking for your credit card number, social security, tax identification
or similar number or other personally identifiable information. If you
are asked for this information, you can be confident Sony is not the
entity asking. When the PlayStation Network and Qriocity services are
fully restored, we strongly recommend that you log on and change your
password. Additionally, if you use your PlayStation Network or Qriocity
user name or password for other unrelated services or accounts, we
strongly recommend that you change them as well. *

To protect against possible identity theft or other financial loss,
we encourage you to remain vigilant, to review your account statements
and to monitor your credit or similar types of reports. *

We thank you for your patience as we complete our investigation of
this incident, and we regret any inconvenience. *Our teams are working
around the clock on this, and services will be restored as soon as
possible. Sony takes information protection very seriously and will
continue to work to ensure that additional measures are taken to
protect personally identifiable information. Providing quality and
secure entertainment services to our customers is our utmost priority. *
