It was my understanding that the French were / are more than willing to accept our "waste" rods. Apparently, they have the tech to further purge them making them much less, if at all, an environmental hazard, but then, in the usual fashion, politics has to get in the way of transferring these rods to French officials.

I suppose that it's an OK auxiliary, if you can afford it. Solar & Wind generated energy has to be more or less in the proximity of where it is to be consumed as it does not transmit as efficiently as traditional high current lines.

These debates are always interesting. First of all, nobody is going to change anyone else's mind on the subject so it's funny that the natural tone of voice most people take is one of attempting to force an opinion on others. It's not gonna happen but people really want to be "right" especially about things they believe deeply in so it's understandable. My opinions, and that's all they are, are:

- If a woman gets pregnant, I think that's a person inside her. I don't know when life technically begins and frankly it doesn't matter to me personally since I know what it's going to be and to me it's a person then. When my wife had a miscarriage I didn't say, "Oh thank goodness that was just a blob inside her and not our unborn baby that died." And when she finally got pregnant again, I didn't say "I can't wait until that thing inside her becomes a baby." From that moment we had a baby and when something happened we lost a baby.

- I have friends that have had abortions. I even drove one friend to her abortion in high school. I supported her and believed it was the right choice for her but still believe what she was doing was preventing a life from coming into the world. It was clear to me that it was a decision that still impacted a life even if I wouldn't have called it something so brutal as killing. It was a selfish act in that it was primarily for her own sake as I suspect many abortions are. And yes, people do many other things in their own self-interest so again, I'm not saying it's wrong, just trying to be honest about what it is - choosing the quality of one's own life over another's.

- I don't agree that the woman should have sole power of authority on the abortion decision just because she goes through the 9 months of pregnancy and the pain of delivery. If I'm being honest I also don't think it's a 50/50 decision though, since in many cases the man's role is an optional one so I do respect that the woman has more skin in the game, as it were. It would be hard to make a ruling that would work for all people in all situations.

- The best solution to all of this debate would be a lot more practice of safe sex. I think most would agree that the best solution to abortion would be less unwanted pregnanies so that people never have to be in the position of making the choice in the first place. Obviously that's overy simplistic and awfully optimistic but the more this happens, the less it's even on the table.

- It's a funny subject too as you get older since your beliefs may not change, but they can morph some. When I was a teenager, I was completely and totally pro-choice. There was no debate and how dare those pro-life advocates try to force their opinions on anyone. Now I'm older with two healthy kids and have also gone through two miscarriages (yes, my wife went through them, but believe me I felt something, too). Now life to me, especially of a newborn, is a miraculous, precious thing. Babies are so helpless and depend on you for everything for a long time. So, I would still consider myself pro-choice but when someone tries to advocate for the lives of these special things that can't do it for themselves, I do listen a bit more than I used to and do try to at least appreciate their point. I still have no patience for extremism though, on either side.

I too am pro choice, but am pro life and giving the kid up for adoption. Its sad that kids/pregnancies are seen as a burden rather than a gift and a blessing.

I don't want to be told what to do with my body by the government, so how can I say that about pregnancies? Sounds hypocritical by what I posted above, but I believe that the kid should be born and given up for adoption if it seems that it won't work out for the parents. Don't just scramble the kid's brain with a coat hanger and rip it out of the cooter.

In an abortion cast there are 3 interested parties-the mother, father and the child (who cannot speak for itself of course).........it's not simply a matter of a woman's right to choose.
There are many reasons for terminating a pregnancy .If it is seriously threatening the life of the mother that is reasonable. If it's simply inconvenient that's tough shit, the time for making THAT decision was when precautions could have been taken.
