Technically it specifically means to be polite and on your best behavior.

It's either... a suggestion to mind your Pleases and thank-Qs or a suggestions that you should mind your Pints and Quarts... as in, at the bar and not get too drunk, and thus out of control. I've seen it suggested that both are the original meanings.

I was curious about it awhile ago and looked it up. Because I do stuff like that. Because I like to know why stuff is the way it is.
