Porn actor has tested positive for HIV; industry clinic officials confirm a quarantin

An adult-film performer has tested positive for HIV at a Sherman Oaks clinic frequented by those in the porn industry, according to clinic staff.

"We do have a confirmed adult-industry performer who tested positive for HIV. We are quarantining and testing all exposed partners to the individual who tested positive for HIV," said Jennifer Miller, HIV/STD counselor at the AIM clinic in Sherman Oaks, where the person was tested.

Miller would not say the gender of the person, what companies he or she worked for, when the person was tested or whether AIM had notified state and county health officials.

"We’re doing what we can to notify the individuals involved," Miller said.

[Updated at 2:30 p.m.: The positive HIV test is the first reported since last year when an adult-film actress, who industry officials said had worked rarely, was infected with the virus. No one else in the industry was infected as a result.

It was unclear immediately how far reaching the implications were in the most recent case.

That sucks. I don't wish for that kind of thing for anyone. It's especially bad when the infected is a porn actor as well considering the risks for infecting others are much greater than the average person if you're unaware of your condition. I'm actually surprised there aren't more cases of this.

True. Cases of detected HIV infections in porn are a statistical anomaly when you consider the amount of contact even without condoms.

I admit I'm not technically educated on the stats and numbers but it really seems like under the circumstances porn has done a helluva job against HIV transmission.

It would almost seem if you wanted to fuck allot and not get HIV porn would be where you'd want to be doing it.:dunno:

Won't affect too many in the business - it's too large. All the other "scares" did not stop the adult industry.

Won't affect too many in the business - it's too large. All the other "scares" did not stop the adult industry.

The last outbreak in 2004 stopped production in the industry for a month. So it had an impact.

No one noticed, as in the consumers, as movies are made months in advance.
And that's what truly is the concern of the adult industry - keep making money.

Though after thinking about it, I'm pretty sure most porn companies (especially the big ones) require their performers be tested on a more than regular basis. It would be stupid if they didn't considering the industry they're in. That's probably why there aren't more cases of this.

That's why they've been fighting mandatory condom use, but this might be the outbreak that finally causes it to be implemented.
