Ozzy Osbourne....Black Sabbath

My love for Black Sabbath began on a strange note. When I first heard "Iron Man" on the radio I was like "What is THAT?!?" My dad's like "That's Black Sabbath, come on you should have known that!" since I had a major obsession with 70's music at the time and knew most rock bands... or so I thought! I somehow missed over Black Sabbath. I then heard "War Pigs" but all the riffs and tempo changes was too much for me to absorb so it came across as boring at the time. I definitely feel 100% different now! I then heard "Paranoid" and thought I'd recognized it from many years ago. From there, I heard Master of Reality and Paranoid online and loved them to pieces. I bought them uptown soon after. I then encouraged my dad to buy me their debut and Volume 4. After high school graduation, I used some of that graduation money to buy Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, Sabotage and Technical Ecstasy. Later on I received Never Say Die as a Christmas present. I eventually heard the Dio stuff and loved that too. Just the best metal band ever! No other metal band comes up with riffs like Iommi. I don't know how he does it.

Ozzy's solo stuff is pretty good but doesn't blow me away like the Sabbath work. Diary of a Madman, Ultimate Sin and especially No Rest for the Wicked are pretty solid from beginning to end. Never could get into No More Tears for whatever reason.

I watched that documentary a couple weeks ago- it's really good. I like the story of Ozzy smearing his own shit all over the walls of his hotel bedroom, lol.

Guess Who rocks- Burton Cummings cries when he sings. I love that. Amon Duul II's Yeti album is what you wanna pop into your CD player (or whatever people use for music listening these days) whenever you want to just let loose and feel like the craziest person on the planet!!

I'll have to check them out (Amon Duul II).

persona non grata
I love the first three albums, even if they contain some of the worst written lyrics in the history of music (the rhyme "Generals gathered in their masses, just like witches at black masses" is so hilariously bad that you have to wonder if it´s actually some sort of weird joke).

For me back in the 70's when i started buying 8 tracks and i think a Lear Jet tape player, i started listening to different music but not much of Sabbath. Maybe because it was a different sound? Bands like Def Leppard,Slade, ELO, The Tubes is what i started listening to but as the years passed i found myself listening to heavier music as i was getting older. Going to a bar that had Sabbath on the juke box, that's when i started to listen to them. Some of Ozzy's solo stuff as well played on juke boxes in bars. More good memories !

Wow, every bar jukebox I've ever heard only plays old country music or ealy 60's rock but nothing like Sabbath, Purple, or Slade. It's sort of depressing! Heavier music sounds better now as an older person for some reason. I mean when we're young we're only listening to heavy metal to be cool or rebel against our parents/society but now as adults, we're able to really listen to the notes and absorb the heaviness in all its glory.

They're interesting to say the least.

Anything to keep the patrons happy. Yes, it's crazy how it works out like that for sure. Enjoying and appreciating it more now than in the early years.

It's a fantastic feeling- like we've finally reached the point where we don't have to be affected by anything- we can just accept the music for what it is. Greatest feeling ever! Only took me to the age of 27 to figure this out, lol
