Just went to my first Ice Hockey game and it was great. It's not big over here, in fact, the Belfast Giants, my city team, only formed in 2000. We had Theo Fleury play for us last year. He scored a hat trick and 4 assists on his debut.

Very cool. What's the atmosphere like in a European rink? I had no idea Theo was still playing anywhere.

Monday's NHL Transactions

COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS-Signed D Duvie Westcott to a three-year contract extension through the 2009-10 season.

NASHVILLE PREDATORS-Signed G Tomas Vokoun to a four-year extension.

PHOENIX COYOTES-Named Rick Braunstein travel coordinator, Kevin Crawley director of media relations and publications, and Sergey Kocharov media relations intern.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS-Re-signed C Trevor Linden to a one-year contract.

The Flyers re-signed free-agent Simon Gagne to a five-year contract Monday night, ending a summer of difficult negotiations with training camp set to open this week.

Gagne, a former first-round pick, is coming off the best season of his career, scoring 47 goals and 79 points last season for Philadelphia. He was involved in lengthy contract negotiations for most of the summer, but general manager Bob Clarke flew to Montreal on Monday to meet with Gagne's agent.

Edit: Oh sry, i didn´t saw, thats already postet :(

I'm just waiting to see who the Wings name as Captain.

i know, 15 years!!?!?!?!? this coming from the team that gave yashin a 10 year deal (look how that turned out). now if dipietro turns out to be like a marty brodeur, then this will look great. if he turns out to be a fluke, then the GM will be the laughing stock for years to come

i think it's good for the nhl that gagne stayed in philly. it was hard for me to imagine him going somewhere else anyways.

every team has at least one or two superstars. it's the teams that know how to build around that that have success

im already laughing at him. come on, 15 year deal? eventually the deal will be bought out. he wont even be in the league for 15 years.

This move by the Isles comes from the same guy who thought it'd be a good idea to scout sumo wrestlers to play goal. It's also a product of what happens when your best friend Garth Snow becomes general manager. IDIOTS!

He'll be around 40 during the last year of his contract. I highly doubt he'll even play another 10 years let alone 15.

the goalie from philly became a gm already? wow!!!! at least he looks out for his bretheran.

The NY Islanders went out an hired Neil Smith earlier in the summer to be their new gm. Less than a month later he gets fired for some wacky ass reason. Somehow the Islanders decide to make their back up goalie (Garth Snow) general manager. The one guy who's really at fault for alot of the stupidity is their owner Charles Wang.
