Obama's Afghanistan Speech....

I would gladly take a bullet or give my life so my brother on my left and right has a chance to survive and live another day.

I don't know if you meant that literally (fellow soldiers on each side of you) or metaphorically (politically), but in any case, I ask, would you gladly take a bullet or give your life for a brother who was opposed to the battle/war itself?

Also, why??? Why would you "gladly" do such a thing?

Do you always, automatically, place more value on your "brother's" life than your own?

Just curious....

Literally. As to your second question about a brother who oposed the war the answer is still yes. Once you earn the EGA you are a brother no matter what. Brothers can fight, but brothers all have each other backs.

Because I rather have myself killed than suffer the loss of one United States Marine. I know not everyone is going to understand this and that is OK.

Once again yes.

But...... if YOU are killed rather than the other Marine (I presume your user-name here is for real, and that you are actually a Marine), the result is still the "loss of one United States Marine." What if the other Marine at issue is a royal jerk?

There must be some limit to your Christ-like selflessness in this regard, surely...

[Thanks for answering my questions thus far - interesting! :hatsoff:]

Does not matter if the other Marine is a jerk, douch, asshole, he is my brother and I will do everything I can to protect him.

No there is no limit when it comes to my brothers and family. As I would take a bullet for my wife and kid also.

For the record I served in the 3rd squad 1st platoon India Co. 3/1. I was a Squad leader and personally incharge of 13 Marines.

I'll respectfully leave you alone with your grief. I regret your re-living the horror of battle. I am a trauma surgeon. I've worked in battlefield blood. I know. I was and I remain blind on glory. I've never really found the pulse of valor either but I'm glad you can. I mostly struggle with bitter angry shame. Waging these wars seems wrong to me. I respect your views. You earned them. I've found few kindred spirits here at Freeones. This post is my goodbye.
