^^^^^ Good thoughtful post.
I think that maybe the atheist community simply has poor public relations. This is looking at it from the context of average John / Jane Doe American citizen, not particularly my viewpoint.
Americans, like most among representative Constitutional governments appreciate a comparison of some sort in which to base their political choices.
Individual political parties must show some previous work history. The voters will demand a thorough background check. lol
At this point in the short history of America, there has yet to bean engaging example of an "atheistocrat / atheistican", if you will.
I just wish that "God" was used more in a universal sense as opposed to the particulars of one or the other.
Most "christians" that I'm familiar with are just that - little "c" christians i.e. they're not loyal to any particular organized sect or church. They have faith solely in the sense that they believe that there is a greater creator and that's the end of it.
The idea that evangelical christianity is on the way to conquering the world runs counter to reality, from my vantage point anyway.
All aside from atheism, realize that there are many who wish to dismantle the body American government as we know it and will use any means necessary, clever trickery from within, for example, to do so, if need be. That said, the voting public seems to vote for the familiar, more conventional medium.
As for Obama getting away with his "change" campaign, this doesn't quite sit right with inquiring minds. The media is apparently intimidated by a potential accusation of race card politics. i.e. How dare they scrutinize this man ?
We may detest this current president, and I do for a number or reasons, "change" just might mean shackles
we don't know now, do we ?
YMMV
