Obama in a turban: Barack accuses Hillary of smear campaign after circulating photos of him dressed as 'a Muslim'

Comments Comments (4)
Barack Obama's campaign chief today accused Hillary Clinton's aides of "shameful offensive fear-mongering" by circulating a smear photo designed to trick voters into once again thinking the black presidential hopeful is a Muslim.

David Plouffe claimed members of the former First Lady's team had e-mailed an image of the Democratic frontrunner dressed in a tunic and turban.

Mr Obama, who was raised as a Christian by his white mother despite his Kenyan father being Muslim, has been dogged for months by claims he is secretly following the Islamic faith.

If she did that is very petty. Looks like the tactics of a desperate woman.
Oh, you can be sure that she has all sorts of tricks / stunts to come in the days ahead. I just wish this was all a campaign for local school principal though. :o

It appears that all of the candidates want to do something to America as opposed to for America. :(

NADER BABY !!

First let me say I was originally most supportive of Edwards but he didn't go very far.Now I think of the two dems left I think Hillary is the better of the two.But let me say even without knowing who is behind the release of this picture if this is all they got then Obama is OK and will continue to be the phenom he has been.Remember back when Bill Clinton was running and the info on his mistress came out it mattered little,it was "the economy stupid" that was deemed much more important and the the personal stuff was dismissed.
While Obama obviously has a parent who was born a muslim I don't think the tag he is a muslim will stick or matter much in the end.Someone mentioned didn't Romney being a mormon matter? I don't know it did,he lost cause he's a loser not because he's a mormon lol.McCain came off as at least a somewhat credible person who was much more acceptable to the pubs then flipper Romney did, thats what did Romney in.
And lastly I don't think politics is suppose to be played nice ,its serious buisness for big stakes and not for the meek.I wish americans would stop whining about all the negative attack stuff. It's suppose to be a competetion of ideas and not a love fest.

Another reason why I can't fucking stand Hillary. If she did this then it just proves how low she can go.

Like a fish tank we see right through her.

People have talked about the historic nature of these primaries, as though these candidates from supposedly diverse backgrounds are a sign of progress in the murky swamp of identity politics that is America.

The very fact that Obama and Romney's religions have been issues at all, that both of these candidates have had to assuage the public about their faiths is a sign that Americans are astonishingly ill at ease with other faith communities in their midst. So what if Romney's LDS or Obama's a Muslim? Obama's clearly not, despite what that link to that polemical website and its conspiracy theories is supposed to suggest, but it should be a non-issue either way, just as Hillary's gender is simply irrelevant.

As if that wasn't absurd enough, the ignorance about the religious significance of African clothing would be amusing if it wasn't so tragic. If you're going to take the time to smear a political personality in the spotlight, at least do your homework. There's all manner of headgear in Africa, much of which could be described as turban or resembling a turban. Through personal experience I know that you can't always guess a person's religion from what they may be wearing -- I've met large numbers of Ethiopian priests who've worn headgear that would be described as turbans, for heaven's sake.

I think this is a good thing, for this to come out now, still pretty early in the primary. This gives Obama a chance to respond and put the matter to rest. I'm cynical enough to thing that the Obama camp asked Hillary's bunch to release the photo so that it wouldn't be a big surprise when the McCain-Obama race begins. Same thing about his patriotism being questioned (which is load of BS. The questioning his patriotism, that is.)

I dream for the day an atheist has a credible run for the presidency.

I'm with ya on that (although I'd prefer a friendly agnostic more than anything), but keep dreaming, keep dreaming.

As for this photo, it's so silly.

I dressed up as Darth Vader once for Halloween, that doesn't mean I work for The Dark Side.

Whoever pulled this stunt just shows us that they hate Muslims (overall, in general) and they're trying to appeal to bigots and sissies.

Frankly, I'm getting sick of hearing Obama go on and on about what a Christian he is.

Why DO we have to play things this way? So very annoying!

:2 cents:

To be honest...the photo looks more like he's mocking Islam rather then "secretly going to the mosque" or whatever it is is supposed to be the insinuation. I mean look at that photo. He looks nothing like a middle east "muslim,"; I've seen enough of them on tv over the years. It looks like he grabbed the bedsheets off his hotel bed and wrapped them around his body...frankly, he looks more like he's heading to a toga party rather then a mosque.

I am voting for him and would need for him to "pull a Farrakhan" and go public with a religious conversion for me to get off his wagon.

This move by Hillary doesn't surprise me because Hillary attacked Obama in front of the Black Caucus, on Martin Luther King Day in South Carolina...and I thought that was a classless act by her. She completely disregarded her own AA support by going savage on Obama at that particular debate. She could've chosen one before or after--there have been ample opportunities to attack him at debates....

She should've attacked him in the last debate. To dodge him and then "slip" this photo out smacks of pure arrogance and desperation...imo.

The "Less Than Zero" Mrs. Hillary Clinton attacked the credibility of a 12 year-old girl who was raped in AK in 1975. A 12 year old learning disability girl who was raped and attacked by Mrs. Clinton.

[T]here is a little-known episode Clinton doesn't mention in her standard campaign speech in which those two principles collided. In 1975, a 27-year-old Hillary Rodham, acting as a court-appointed attorney, attacked the credibility of a 12-year-old girl in mounting an aggressive defense for an indigent client accused of rape in Arkansas — using her child development background to help the defendant.

[snip]

[Clinton's] account leaves out a significant aspect of her defense strategy — attempting to impugn the credibility of the victim, according to a Newsday examination of court and investigative files and interviews with witnesses, law enforcement officials and the victim.

Rodham, records show, questioned the sixth grader's honesty and claimed she had made false accusations in the past. She implied that the girl often fantasized and sought out "older men" like Taylor, according to a July 1975 affidavit signed "Hillary D. Rodham" in compact cursive.

The behaviour of Mrs. Hillary Clinton last weekend showed she is desperate, deceptive, deceiving and also at the end of the rope. She is the one acting like Carl Rove, she is NOT the victim but a power-hungry Washington insider.

Don't forget she championed NAFTA back in 1993, she wrote the playbook on Universal Health Care in 1993 and the insurance companies spent over tens of "billions" not millions to shoot her down.

After last week in Ohio, there will NOT be a united Democratic Party National Convention in Denver. Because she, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, claimed a 35 years of public service but attacked a 12 years old rape victim in Ak, there is nothing left for me and others to support her even she wins and be nominated as the candidate.

Mrs. Hillary Clinton supported NAFTA and now changed her entire platform in Ohio and became so desperate and went negative. There will be FIRE in the Denver Convention. She will NOT be the next President.

just because someone is 12 doesnt mean they are credible.

The Hillary bashing is in full gear I see.I realize Obama is the flavor of the week and while I don't get it, I know he has caught the imagination of a lot of people.Personally I still wonder about his electabilty but if he was elected he would be better than any pub for sure. But so would Hillary. And ya know what attacking children as witnesses is not just justified its very often true.Children are notorious as being bad witnesses as they are very impressionable and easily led to say what they have been told.I will give a link to an infamous case where all kinds of allegations and trials were held on the testimony of children ,it was claimed over 360 cases of abuse had happened at this day care school , since it has come to light that the kids had been coached and at least one has talked about why he lied.Your defending someone as an attorney who is being prosecuted on a childs testimony and where especially you have evidence this particular child may not be being truthfull and don't use that you should be dis-barred.She was just doing her job it that is what happened.

Here is some stuff from the infamous McMartin case.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/McMartin_preschool_trial

Interviewing and examining the children
"Several hundred children were then questioned by the Children’s Institute International (CII), a Los Angeles abuse therapy clinic. By spring of 1984, 360 children had been identified as having been abused. Astrid Heppenstall Heger performed medical examinations and took photos of minute scarring purportedly caused by anal penetration. Critics have alleged that the questioners asked the children leading questions, repetitively, which, it is said, always yields positive responses from young children, making it impossible to know what the child actually experienced. Some claim the questioning itself may have led to false-memory syndrome among the children who were questioned."

Aftermath
"The McMartin preschool itself was closed and leveled. Three of the accused have died since the trial concluded. In 2005, newspapers reported that a child had retracted his story and said he lied, believing he was protecting his younger siblings, and pleasing his parents"
