Obama Has a Race Problem?

Decided to make this thread when another poster here was accused of being "hung up on diversity" when he rationally tried to explain Republican voter patterns & attitude. Maybe Blacks do have a reason to distrust the Republican party seeing that Republicans especially have seriuos problems with African Americans according to the AP poll below. Maybe some can now understand why Blacks have voted barely 10% Republican for the past 45 years:

http://news.yahoo.com/page/election-2008-political-pulse-obama-race

Also wanted to get the issue out of the way that Blacks are voting for Obama simply becuause he is African American which is one of the biggest Myths I have heard yet. If people were to research they would know that Blacks have voted 85% to 90% White DEM presedential candidates because of the Democratic PLATFORM & general INCLUSIVENES.(Gore,Mondale,Kerry,Humphries,etc.. even got 90 percent of the Black vote & i doubt if it was because of their race.)
A handful of Blacks have run for President & never got nearly the support Obama ,nor Jesse Jackson got in their Presidential runs. Hillary Clinton was getting nearly 60% of the Black vote until a few gaffes by Bill & Hillary & once they got to know Obama he not oly inspired Blacks ,but young Whites ,Germans(200,000),French,English,etc...

To justify the Republican lack of diversity many attack Obama's support from Blacks which is misguided & although Democratic Whites/nor Blacks are not without their prejudices they do vote their best interest & are not afraid to confront DIVERSITY head on.

While all the historical facts about voting tendencies along racial lines are of course true for now I would just like to focus on this last part of your post as it makes a point I have tried to make rather unsuccesfully here in the past.I'm sure I will have more to say when some responses come in though.
People really view race and racism in very black and white terms(no pun intended) as though you are totally not racist or you are the equivalent of a Klan member while the truth is 99.9% of people fall somewhere in between. That goes for everyone. To have been nurtured and grown up in this society and then to say you came out of that with no racial stereotypes and biases is just being in denial. This affects everyone of all races.People need to just look at things like the famous white and black doll test where children no matter what their race think the white doll represents good traits and the black one represents bad ones, this is especially sad for the black children but its a fact we should not and cannot deny. This is not about making anyone feel guilty ,but about what do we do to try to make progress so that true equality can be had someday. All this denial of such things I find worse then the time when people just came out and admitted their biases and tried to defend them.At least then their was some intellectually honesty and the issue could be confronted. But this approach that we are just suppose to be color blind and not see any differences is the latest tactic of whites to evade the issue. You can't resolve anything or make any progress on better race relations when people won't be honest about where they are now.Think of it this way if you want to get somewhere it is very difficult if you don't know or tell the truth about where you are to start with.

So bottom line is Were all racist in some way to to some degree ,no big deal. The thing is to acknowledge that and work on not letting that run us and to get past it.Don't feel guilty ,don't blame the victims just try to see it is an ingrained part of all of us that we can if we try resolve.Race is an issue we all have to grapple with within ourselves whether we like to see it or not and denial is not going to help at all.:2 cents:

Most of the black people are just voting for Obama because he's black..which I think isn't fair to everyone else.

You missed the point of the 1st post if you think that. Most blacks have voted for the democrate when they were white as well, close to 90%.

Why? If it was the other way around and blacks were the majority and had been for hundereds of years then finally a white candidate was up for the presidential nomination wouldnt white people do the exact same thing?

It doesn't matter, its not fair to this county if he wins just because of his skin color, not because of what he believes and will actually do for the country. It's not fair whatsoever. Anyways I'm finished posting in this thread..I hate talking politics, nothing but conflict. So have fun debating people byyyyyyyyyyyyyye

Ok have a good one.But let me say If Obama wins and I as white guy sure hope he does it will be in spite of his being black not because of it.The truth is I did not want him to be the democratic nominee because of the hurdle I think he faces being the 1st black elected.

Actually, there is a fair amount of racism going on in the Presidential election, but it isn't due to any ads that use racist "code words" or anything like that, it is simply voters, mainly white female voters who have said they are uncomfortable/ill not vote for Obama because he is black. This plays into the whole black man raping the poor helpless white woman that the KK used to terrorize balcks in the South and was a lynchpin of the segregationists for decades.

But as I said before, there have yet to be any political ads that use racist "code words", although several republican politicians have made overtly racist, bigoted and idiotic statements about Obama.

Brutally honest & very insightful post from Friday as usual.:glugglug: I would only substitute the word "racist" with we're all "prejudiced' or "biased" being that racist brings strong connotations that I don't want to believe about us. Yes I absolutely believe it is human nature that we tend to be drawn to & feel more comfortable with people who look like us.

In order to be cool while black, you must walk lock step with whatever the democratic party deems as correct, sway one single percentile away from that platform and you're majorly ostracized by the majority. It's a form of coercion, really.

The democratic party expect 100 % loyalty of their constituency or else !! particularly for the black electorate. The pubs appear to be much less dogmatic or fundamentalist, if you will, toward their rank and file electorate. You could openly discuss your liberal virtues in a hall of pubs and nobody is going to shout you down and or excoriate you.

Everybody wants to have a secure feeling in their community and let's face it, the races do seem to form somewhat separate communities when left to their own devices. This, in and of itself, doesn't translate to racism, it's simply that people are more comfortable with whatever it is that they're familiar with. I suppose that there's less resistance in adaptation when living amongst people most similar to your person. :dunno:

The dems, in my opinion have fostered the idea that in order to be a correct black, you must follow the democratic ideology, if not, they hate your guts and call you things that include "house", uncle tom(s) and other unwelcoming derogatory namesakes.

It's easier to go along to get along. :(

I guess :dunno:

I am neither Dem, Pub or Law enf. officer. . . just a mere observer ;)

Like Friday has noted, I think you absolutely missed the point of my first point. Blacks have voted in similiar numbers for DEMS since 1964 & all of those candidates were LILY WHITE.
Do you think Blacks voted 90% for Gore,Mondale,Kerry,Humphries because of their skin color? Blacks vote for the Democratic PLATFORM & their INCLUSIVENESS in a country where they were systematically EXCLUDED for centuries. Gays/Blacks/Whites/Hispanics/etc....as evidenced by the wonder that was the DNC convention in Denver.

Why do people refuse to accept this FACT that blacks vote for the more INCLUSIVE Democratic Party no matter who the candidate is? It seems that people want to justify those Whites who refuse to vote for Obama because of his color & they are many.
There is no conflict here Candy. Facts are indisputable . Many simply refuse to acknowledge these facts because they go against every notion of why they (many Whites) believe Blacks vote for Obama.
There have been many Black presedential candidates African Americans have not supported: Keyes,Al Sharpton,Carol Mosley Braun, Shrley Chisholm,etc.... Obama is a transcendent world figure.

Umm...what? I'm not racist to any degree.

True...denial of racism isn't going to help anything.

But, doing the complete opposite and claiming that everything has a tone of racism to it just because there's a "black guy" involved, isn't going to help anything either...and that's exactly what most people do...cry racism for no reason at all.

I also agree that "race" is an issue we all have to grapple within ourselves. Key words...within ourselves. Making it public doesn't do anything but add unnecessary fuel to the fire. We can thank the general media for that.

Yes Blacks KNOW that all of the White Supremist/Southern Segregationist/ Dixie Crats who once voted overwhelmingly Democratic(Blacks once voted Republican & voted 39% for Nixon in 1960) completely abandoned the Dems. The Republican Party has been seen (and justifiably so if any one reads the polls) as a party unfriendly to blacks,minorities,gays,etc.....

Friday, Why has no one SERIUOSLY attempted to even adress the FACT that Black voter patterns have been unchanged much whether the candidate been Black or White?

For the record Blacks once voted Republican(between 1870-1930's when FDR came along) & most voted for Eisenhower in 1956 & 39% even voted for Nixon in 1960. Nixon lost & used the "Southern Startegy" to appeal to angry Southern White Supremist/Segregationist who were once Democrats before 1964. The strategy worked & Republicans have dominated national Elections ever since. That is the Republican Party legacy as evidenced by the poll & why Blacks are wary of that Party.

Actually, you should speak for yourself. I'm quite certain I'm not racist. Stereotyping the entirety of humanity one way is just as bad as the racism you seem to think every singe person has. I also my own person and refuse to be held responsible for the actions and thoughts of other people.
