OK now its getting beyond ridiculous (not you Jason:)).

But those criticisms of Obama and this address are just too much. This is what every president is suppose to do and all the ones I remember have.

"I'm going to be making a big speech to young people all across the country about the importance of education; about the importance of staying in school; how we want to improve our education system and why it’s so important for the country. So I hope everybody tunes in."

For the republicans to find something wrong or sinister in that is a new low or maybe it just shows how out of touch and really have nothing significant to say they really are.

Also I just though of this.Do you remember where GWB was on 9/11??

Sitting in a classroom reading to small children.Great pics of him after being told about the planes hitting.Initial reaction from George was nada (nothing),real deer in the headlights for a few minutes.

A message to stay in school and get an education is dangerous? There is madness on the right.

Into your life it will creep
It starts when you're always afraid

Then he hid for pretty much the rest of the day.

So let me get this straight. A guy, not just any guy but the President of the United States wants to have a speech directed at students across the country about the importance of staying in a school and getting a good education and parents are upset. That about sum it up. It's official, stupidity comes in all forms. I thought George Bush Nation was over but I can see that it is alive and well.

Plus Bush was also speaking in schools pubicly chastising Congress for not acting fast enough upon his 'No Child Left Behind' program.:dunno:

I get the feeling anything that President does will be seen as sinister by these irrational 'teabagging' nuts who still resent that Obama was elected.

Congrees & Obama should push through the healthcare bill(if possible) without Republican help as it is evident these people do no want to debate/negotiate.

You guys it's a waste of time. What kind of kid wants to go to school?

The only way to keep a man in school is women. It's a proven fact. That's the only reason I went to high school was to stare at my fellow classmates and to stay off probation. I had too many good looking teachers. My teachers always wondered why I paid attention so well, but never passed their classes.

Now the President should care about education, but this is the Parent's job.

Ah activities that the Department of Education came up with to Help the president get his "message" across.

Unbelievable. The POTUS extolling the value of education and staying in school is called brainwashing nowadays by some???

I can see the GOPer party shrinking even more after this...what reasonable person can associate with such prime time idiots and feel completely ashamed??

But wait, I garrrrrrn-teee....Fox will have some special report playing Obama's speech backwards (or something) or pick apart each syllable to find some covert signal which reveals the "real" hidden brainwash.....

Worse yet, there will likely be some fool stupid enough to repeat it here when it happens....sheesh..

I said this in this thread - http://board.freeones.com/showthread.php?p=3590489&posted=1#post3590489 but it is probably more appropriat here.

I know it's not really part of what this thread is about but I find their complaint about Obama addressing school children to be highly ironic and amusing looking at their point of view. They claim it might be brainwashing the children in public school or obliging the youngest children in our public school system to agree with our President's initiatives or be ostracized by their teachers and classmates, yet when it comes to things like The Pledge of Allegiance, school prayer, or having The Ten Commandments posted in those schools many of those people have no problem with that at all. Even if the opponents of those things use some of the almost exact same reasoning for not wanting it that they have for not wanting the president to address school children and direct class activities.

I wonder if anyone who is upset about Obama's speech can identify the source of this quote:

Why is it political for the president of the United States to discuss education? It was done at a nonpolitical site and was beamed to a nonpolitical audience. . . . They wanted to reach the maximum audience with the maximum effect to improve education.

I can't stand Obama or his policies. Yet, he is the president and I see no reason why he cannot address school children. This outrage is overreaction to say the least.

Maybe BO should go back to school:

Per the Wall Street Journal September 11, 2008, "Obama's Lost Years," Obama graduated from Columbia University (to which he transferred after his first two years at Occidental College in California), with a degree in Political Science "without honors", entailing a GPA less than a 3.0 and greater than a 1.8. His Occidental GPA is unreleased but he transferred from the bottom 15% of his class, which at Occidental today, ranges between 0.11 and 0.20. Bear in mind that admissions standards have risen dramatically since his day.

The Savior...yeah. Dubya had a C average at Yale. Looks like BO might not have even surpassed old Dubya. No wonder why he's the only pres to ever have czars on such a large scale. :D;)

Funny how you guys continue to omit the relevant parts of your links....why should he go back to school when he;

Eventually, Obama graduated Magna cum Laude from Harvard Law, a title shared by the top 10% of his class.

this issue should cause people to stop and look at themselves in the mirror and question why they are reacting the way they are. it is shameful. A county school board near mine has decided not to show the president's address but instead will show it a couple days later so that parents can view it first and deem its worth for their children.

Ignorance is bliss and we are a wonderfully happy country

On the local news here in Cleveland, they were interviewing people about this and I think that one lady made a REALLY good point - if Bush was still President, and he did the same exact thing that Obama is going to do, would people still feel the same way about it? Nope. Probably not. So, is it the action that people are upset about or the person doing it?
