I have mixed feelings about the new deal. On the upside, I like the way the deal evens out the salary imbalances. No more teams with $70 million payrolls against others with $20 million. This should be great for competition. On the downside, there is an awful lot of movement right now, and I've long since lost track of who's playing where. Also, the new deal reduces the age of unrestricted free agency every year. Can you tell I prefer player loyalty to movement?

I'm not exactly bitter about the lockout, but a year without hockey distanced me a bit to the game. I'm really not all that excited about the coming season. The league and players have a long ways to go to regain fan support, which was never strong to begin with compared to the other major pro sports.

I think the redline change won't have much impact, though I support the move. Rather than screw around with the game (like shootouts), I say widen the arena. Yeah, I'm a hockey purist.

Hockey. What is the difference between hockey and soccer? Remind me again?......... :o

Hockey is on ice with sticks and people end up bleeding a lot more. :1orglaugh
I think it's about the same damn thing. Not to mention boring as shit. Playing? It's fun to play, but is boring to watch. Most sports involve watching a bunch of millionaires chase a ball around. Pick your entertainment wisely Gentlemen. Porn or Basketball ( or any other stupid shit ball chasing game). Tough choice. Whoopdie. :o

I think that they should get rid of the instigator and I also think that the Rangers will win over Philly on Oct. 5! :D

Someone really must have pissed in your Wheaties today, man... lol

Damn dude, guess you were the kid that was never picked when kids where picking teams for any sport.

i actually like all the movement. it gives you another reason to be interested in it, just to figure out where players that you like ended up. unfortunately it also means breaking up the Avalanche super-team, but hey it was fun while it lasted.

i think the new rule changes will probably not have as much of an impact on scoring as some people would like, but i'm pretty excited for next season to start.

as far as hockey being boring...i'll agree with that to a certain extent if you're talking about the regular season, but i think that playoff hockey is as exciting as any sport out there.

tampa bay will defend there title, different goalie sure, but all core guys back, and with playoff experience and the ability to win when called upon...

TAMPA BAY WILL WIN AGAIN!

I for one have been waiting a long time for them to reduce the padding the goalies can wear. Have you ever seen a picture of a goalie a long time ago, it looks like they could barely fit anything in their gloves. Now it seems they could shove a whole picnic basket in there. It will also let us compare players from different eras a little better.

Can't wait for it, with the new rules, new players everywhere, a lot of the old guys retiring, Sidney Crosby with Mario Lemieux ! Pittsburgh having a hockey team again after years of sucking !

i cant wait. my teams the canucks. as thats where i am. i will also watch the flames and red wings. a few other teams i will follow. but im rooting for the canucks this season.

Pronger's gonna win the Norris in Edmonton this year! I hope they meet Dallas in the playoffs and sweep the pricks 4 straight!

I wonder how the Red Wings will do now that they can't just outspend most other teams. I hope this forces them to get younger also. They seemed like they are getting old.

i think the redwings will do ok. i dont think they will be as dominate as before though.

Heading to Hershey tonight to see the new look Penguins with the 2nd coming of the great 1 Sidney Crosby :1orglaugh . The NHL is sure hyping this guy up. Reminds me of a certain guy who wore an 88 in Philly ;)
I'm still bitter about last season, anyways it will be interesting to see how the rule changes are incorporated into the game. Especially the elimination of the 2 line pass. There's gonna be cherry-picking galore out there & i'm sure passing wizards like Lemieux are going to take advantage of it. Here's a link to check out the new rules:http://www.nhl.com/news/2005/09/234088.html
I'm just glad the game is back even though the Pens & Flyers look like they are gonna rule the Atlantic div. & my Rangers are gonna suck... again
Oh well, beers to ya hockey fans :glugglug:

*what the NHL did to the fan's last year : :nannerf1: *

Most sports tend to do this. They hype the individual instead of the team or the game in general. Which I think is a mistake. Even if he does live up to potential he will someday retire or get hurt. Look at what has happened to professional basketball.

What happened to the NBA? :dunno:

It seems to be doing fine, and now they have their "2nd coming" in LeBron James. The guy is amazing and what's more hasn't gotten into any major legal problems. He donates to charity and seems wholesome. For God's Sake, he was on Oprah!

The NBA is set for the future and should generate a lot of income. They have plans to expand to Europe in the distant future and Las Vegas(if they can work out the gambling problem) in the immediate future. :2 cents:
